Darth, I used to build plastic models when I was a kid (many years ago). I don't remember the brand names of the models I built, but they weren't great. At the time, I used Testor's plastic cement in tube to build them and then Testor's paint. I did both brush painting and a little spray painting. Every now and then I consider picking it up again. What are the recommended makes of plastic models? What type of glue/cement? Any other suggestions for someone who's considering getting back into the game?
As far as kits go, you can’t go wrong with Tamiya. The fit is always great, instructions clear, and they have a wide variety of subjects to build. Right now I’m working on the Tamiya 1:48 scale Dewoitine D.250 WWII era French single seat fighter…
Airfix kits an are good also if you buy the newer ones. I also build a lot of Italeri, Academy, Dragon, and Trumpeter kits.
When it comes to glue, Testors in the tube is way out dated. I use Tamiya Extra Thin Cement. It’s a liquid cement and comes with a fine tip brush that makes application easy. Just remember a little goes a long way.
I personally use Tamiya acrylics almost exclusively. My method is to mix 2:1 with X-20A thinner and brush on multiple thin, even coats.

Love this! My grandpa flew the Corsair in WWII and in Korea. Beautiful plane with great lines.
My godfather flew the Corsair in WWII as well!

time for another baa baa black sheep rewatch!
was absolutely blown away with this series as a young kid and even today; keeping those corsairs up and running for the show is amazing to me.

The whistling death nickname came from the sound of air during diving attacks rushing into and thru the oval intake slots in the leading edge of the wing inboard of the landing gear which were for the oil cooler, turbo supercharger and intercooler.
ETA Nice work sir.

The strokes you see are Flory grime wash to give it a dirty look.
You hand paint everything.
I see your brush strokes in every single color you paint.
Then you add washes and weathering with more brush strokes.
I see those too.

I use acrylics in the cockpit. However, I mainly use lacquers (Mrp, mr color, hataka) thinned with mr color leveling thinner. That shite is magic stuff. Weather with oils as seen in my Wildcat and Phantom posts.
Darth, do you have issues with thinned paint?

Mr color 1200 or 1500 rattle can primer is da bomb. I also like the mr color line of paints, spray quite well in my airbrush. Just do it somewhere well ventilated...will get you high as frick.

I built the Tiger (fat one) within the last two weeks. Same with the Profile Series one. Built them back to back. Didn’t post them until today.

Never have used that. I love Tamiya's fine grey spray primer. Also use Mr color 1500 black primer with the airbrush - great stuff. That's what I used in my Wildcat post as the black basing.

Yes, I’ve posted three Tamiya egg planes:
P38 Lightning, P40 Warhawk, Mitsubishi Zero.
And then this Tiger Corsair
So I’ve posted four toy models, in different posts.
