Profile Series - Kit 2-1108-100
F4U-1 Corsair - 1/72 Scale
Marine Reserve, Columbus

The kit must be 30+ years old. The decals were almost unusable so I weathered it poorly.

Tiger Model - Kit No. 14
F4U-4 Corsair; Toy Scale
Bunker Hill

Wild toy. Wings fold for carrier storage. Tail fin moves in place. All rockets and external tanks are movable.

Merry Christmas, ya’ filthy animals.

Thanks. The Tiger Model is incredibly well molded.
No flashing. Perfect seams.

That mini Corsair is an exact replica of one I built a year or so ago, same markings and everything.

Your 1/48 reminds me when I was still hand painting. Tons of brush strokes. Too much paint.

This 1/72 Jo Han Kit I built about five years ago has all the same jacked up brush strokes as yours.

Great job! If you ever get the chance to see a Corsair fly at an air show, do it. You will see why the Japanese called them “Whistling Death”.

My father was a Marine in Vietnam, so he was a particular fan of the Corsair.

I saw many as a child. The air shows were pretty loud.

I will take your advice and listen for the whistle when I get there.

Thanks.

The strokes you see are Flory grime wash to give it a dirty look.

Nice! Never have heard of the profile series...although I don't build in 1/72. Looks heavy on the rivets. Great work!!!

mine too

Dad had some great WWII and post-WWII Corsair photos, as he flew them for a while. Unfortunately, one of my sisters has the photos so I'll never see them again.

The reason your brush strokes are jacked up is because you didn’t thin your paint and you painted it on in way too thick layers. If you thin your paint and use thin even layers, that won’t happen.

I use to be an airbrush guy. But I discovered I really enjoy the time and effort it takes to hand paint and weather a model.

Darth, I used to build plastic models when I was a kid (many years ago). I don't remember the brand names of the models I built, but they weren't great. At the time, I used Testor's plastic cement in tube to build them and then Testor's paint. I did both brush painting and a little spray painting. Every now and then I consider picking it up again. What are the recommended makes of plastic models? What type of glue/cement? Any other suggestions for someone who's considering getting back into the game?

Here is my Tamiya. Excuse the pic quality (my son sent it to me since I’m at work) but I’ll take more later. This one is about 10 yrs old. Airbrushed with Model Master enamels. It resides in his room now. Done as Ira Kepford’s bird.,

Love this! My grandpa flew the Corsair in WWII and in Korea. Beautiful plane with great lines.
