One reason they rotate usage is to maintain their claim/agreement and keep the site from reverting to donor.

just visited Milwaukee last week, and it seemed like they had big, beautiful cathedrals on every corner... very surprising, although, admittedly, i don't know much about Milwaukee

Yes, beautiful. I feel like praying. Thank everyone for the wonderful pictures. The images remind me of legions of souls who worshipped in those churches across decades and centuries. I love old churches, the older the better. Maybe because they remind me of "the Church Triumphant" as in all those faithful souls who brought to the Altar their suffering and worship, and now enjoy the Beatific Vision.

Jesus, I trust in you.

No mention of St. John the Evangelist in Plaquemine yet? May be a bit impartial because this was the first church I attended.

Stopped here with the family on a trip to Charleston. Burned by the British, rebuilt and burned by Sherman.

You can see the tops of St Mary's and Trinity Episcopal from Vidalia, pretty neat.

I once had to deliver some paperwork to Thibodeaux. The appointment wasn't until 6 PM. and I arrived early, very early. So I decided to do some sightseeing around town. As I drove around town I passed a beautiful Cathedral. Being Catholic, I was somewhat aware of the layout in a diocese so I figured this was the "Mother Church of the Diocese" (aka the Bishops Cathedral).

I decided to get down and check out the interior. OMG - absolutely beautiful. I'm not kidding when I say I was spellbound - rapt in wonder at the craftsmanship and beauty of that church with ornate stained glass windows, beautiful statures of Jesus, Our Lady, Saints and Angel - all so vivid and lifelike.

Beautiful churches should help us to immediately descend into contemplative prayer the moment we sit in the pews. Well, a 15 minute planned visit turned into an hour of prayer. We humans are endowed with sensory faculties which help us to imagine what heaven is like. That gorgeous Cathedral did that for me - imagine heaven.

My Holy Catholic Church has so many treasures. Among them, beautiful cathedrals, churches, and quiet peaceful cemetaries.

Deus bonus, omni tempore, Amen
