tell me i'm wrong.

one approach allows you to obtain experienced and physically mature players who are ready to contribute on Day 1 and know exactly what they're looking for in a program.

The other gets you divas who aren't ready to contribute but who still expect to be worshipped and paid big dough and will most likely end up transferring after a year or 2 anyways.

For the P5 level, it’s hard to imagine 18 year old HS recruits contributing at the level you can find in the transfer portal…

You're wrong.

It's not absolute and excluding one in favor of the other is foolish. There should be no avenues of player procurement closed off.

Portal, HS recruiting, JUCO, and even a walk-on program all deserve some weighting.

You will never build a program through the portal, and trying to build a team year to year is both exhausting and inconsistent. HS recruiting and player development are the base. The portal and JUCO are either gap fillers or "get over the hump" pieces.

If kids are only going to stick around for two - three years, I'd love to bring in kids that have a year of physical development in a college training program. LSU has I think 10 players that entered the portal. Bringing in 10 sophomore or juniors with actual game film has to be an attractive option

Do the results support your argument?

Top 5 transfer class last year:

1. Colorado
2. Louisville
3. USC
4. UCLA
5. Auburn

Safe to say this didn't make them outperform the teams that have been stacking top HS classes the last few years. Only really Louisville performed well.

Transfer portal is good for filling some needs and you may get a stud here or there but it isn't a substitute for HS recruiting which is what you seem to be suggesting.

BK has only gone into the portal for 3 players this off-season. 1 of which is a backup QB to Nuss

This is a comical oversimplification of high school recruiting. Are these not the same people that enter the transfer portal that you prefer.

You’re wrong. Most people are in the transfer portal for a reason

For LSU I can think of as many misses as hits from the portal.

Jayden Daniels obviously a massive hit.
Lacy-up and down but will classify him as a hit

Jarrick Bernard converse hit
Greg brooks and Joe foucha hits.
Mekhi wingo hit

Denver Harris Duce chestnut were highly rated both miss
Omar speights big miss
Eli ricks transferred out and was a miss for bama

Improvement from those three guys and we may be in the playoffs right now.

Well they quadrupled the number of wins from the previous year. Is that not a positive result?

As long as you have the NIL money, you can pick any player off any team. HS recruiting doesn't mean as much as it used to.

Different strokes for different folks. If you miss on recruits, you will have to make it up in the magic portal. If you stink at recruiting then you better be the master of NIL and hopefully, the second time is the charm.

I still believe recruiting trumps the magic portal and the less you travel that road the better off you are.

nobody is saying skip out on recruiting. but look at what FSU did. they hit the portal properly and it got them an undefeated season.

Colorado would have won 1 or 0 games this season without the portal.

Definitely, not even that close anymore since half the 17-18 year olds transfer out.

You know what you're getting with transfers.
