When is the last time LSU had a successful head coach hired away in a major sport?

We have a pattern of either waiting until the program in question is so far down that it is a rebuild. The last coach that left for an arguably upward job that I recall was Saban going to Miami.

Especially pertinent regarding MBB. Nobody is clamoring to hire McMahon away from us. Meanwhile the program continues to flatline. I would much rather be replacing successful coaches leaving the program in good shape for the next coach. Of course best case is finding our own successful coach who stays until he retires and has developed a replacement in his coaching tree.

Nikki Fargas, duh. Went to the Aces front office and an ESPN job.

Seriously though, LSU is a destination job. That isn't much of a worry.

To another college? The track coach that went to A&M I guess.

It won’t be long before The General is skull dragging us twice a year though, and I’ll support him even if it’s at Bama. Woodward deserves it.

I don’t think these two things are related.

So your point is basically.. you would rather hire better coaches?

LSU is a top-tier job for two of the “big three” men’s sports. That’s why you don’t see successful head coaches being hired away. It could certainly happen in basketball but again that basically just comes down to hiring better coaches.

LSU is an ultimate destination job in football and baseball. There is nowhere else to go (except professional sports) for a step up. Saban left from Michigan St. Kelly left from ND. Johnson left from Arizona, fresh off two CWS runs. LSU is the mecca of college sports in those sports. That's not the case at all for basketball.

So the entire premise of your thread is pretty trash.

Where’s the “or?” You said “either” but provided no “or.”

And I’m confused. You’re measuring the success of our programs by whether or not our head coaches are hired away? That’s idiotic. You don’t want your coaches hired away.

LSU is not a job you leave, its a job you try to attain.
