First you say:
Then you say:
So which one is it?? You’re talking out both sides of your mouth.
His whole body of work is going to trump anything that happens in this meaningless (your words, not mine) bowl game
quote:
He played really well or great in every game this season so one more isn't going to do anything to impress scouts
Then you say:

if he absolutely craps the bed it could hurt him

Probably true, but that still means it can't benefit him even if it won't hurt him much. All risk, no reward.

The 2023 Team is playing in a Bowl Game at the conclusion of the 2023 Season. The Quarterback of the 2023 Team is Heisman Trophy Winner Jayden Daniels. If he wants to play he will. If he opts out it will have nothing to do with "the backup quarterback needs some reps so I'll get out y'all way". Some of the takes on here are absolutely fricking ridiculous.
BOOM. This should have been the first reply to this thread so we could have shut this shithole down.

Many will disagree, but I don't want Jayden to play against Wisconsin. For one, it's an absolute nothing game against an unranked opponent. Second, JD has absolutely zero upside to playing and only downside. He played really well or great in every game this season so one more isn't going to do anything to impress scouts. And if he absolutely craps the bed it could hurt him. Third, he could get hurt and screw up his future. Fourth, I think it's best for the program that Nuss get weeks of practice as #1 and get valuable game experience going into next season
3 things
1. I want him to play in the bowl game no matter what. Even if it's just a half.
2. All these nonsensical excuses, nobody was talking about before kids starting opting out of bowl games.
3. Let's face it. If Rickie Collins was the backup and not Nuss, NONE of you would be saying this crap. Everybody is only saying this crap because of Nuss. If we had some ho-hum backup QB, many of you would have never said any of this.

LSU is always better off winning any bowl game. It still matters to the players, coaches, and fans.
How about what Daniels wants? It is not in his DNA to opt out.
One bowl game is not going to hurt his draft stock whatsoever. Even if he had a bad game the fact that he didn’t opt out would still be a positive in the minds of NFL teams.
And I say all this as someone who would understand if he didn’t play. I don’t think anyone would fault him, but it is not who he is.
Really all you should have said is you prefer to see Nuss get more reps. I am not sure how much that truly matters, but I want to see Daniels represent LSU one more time. He has been awesome and as a fan I want to see him win one more time as an LSU Tiger.

I would like to see him dress and travel with the team. Then take the first offensive snap and take him out so that fans can appreciate him one more time. He would have a blast on the trip just hanging with teammates and even coaching the younger guys.

Sure hope he doesn't get Ben Wilkerson'd

What you want really doesn't matter.

No, it's not overrated to get 3 weeks of practice and a full game as starter. There's a reason everyone wanted week 0 games before FSU both years. A Sugar bowl is a bit better than the Reliaquest bowl. Just be honest you don't want him to play.
Practicing for the bowl isn't exactly the same as practicing for the next year's opener.
If it were, don't you think teams would just sit all players with no more eligibility?

We are talking about 2 different things. Not surprisingly you missed it since you have a different agency.
3 weeks of practice before a game is very important. 3 weeks of practicing as a starter 9 months before the next season is not important at all. The poster I was responding to said it would be better for the program. They will have all spring and summer to practice for next season. That’s more than enough to prepare for next season. practicing as the starter now will not impact the QBs play next season, that’s the point.

Again it helps if you grasp the point. The point was not about the particular bowl game or even which QB should start, but whether practicing for and starting in a bowl gives a QB that was the backup this year and potentially the starter next any meaningful benefit. It does not. Just like young QBs getting some “mop up” snaps in blowouts doesn’t have any meaningful benefit or impact on whether he succeeds.

He is. Get over it.
I really feel sorry for people like you, that think everything is a fight or driven by some kind of agenda. Is it because you perhaps spent so much bandwidth attacking Daniels/screaming for Nussmirer that you think everyone thinks the same. It’s really a shame.
Maybe it’s a generational thing but an old Gen Xer like me I just root for the LSU. I don’t base it on who’s playing or coaching even if I wanted someone else.
As an LSU fan I’d love to see Daniels play one more time but I completely understand if he decides not to for his own future. I do not think his playing would hurt the development of Nussmirer. If Daniels opts out i hope Nussmirer does well. As for next year He’s been here for 2 years with this coaching staff, they know what they have, if he’s named the starter next year he’ll have all off season and summer to practice, he’d be fine even if Daniels plays this bowl

It's football. You can get injured at any time. LSU needs to get 10 wins. 10-3 looks better than 9-4. Play JD5 enough to build up a lead, then let Nussmeier take over.......
Posted on 12/14/23 at 4:13 pm to NewportTiger
OP have you ever heard of Insurance. Also worry about yourself and let JD5 do what he wants to do. In a world where they all seem to opt out of Bowls if this young man wants to play one or two series that's his business. Let him play. Nussmeir will get his chance

He could also get hurt in workouts
Chad Jones was hurt in car wreck stuff can happen but I won’t fault Daniels if he doesn’t play

Selfishly, I’d love to see him play one more time in purple and gold, but I agree with all you said.

Well Holy frick.
I assume you're laughing because you have a psychological disorder? If you don't think it's better for LSU to have next year's starter get 3 weeks of practice and a full start vs just having Jayden play in a meaningless bowl I don't know how to help you.

So last year when Jayden was also the starter and it was still the 2022 season why did he and Nuss alternate drives? That was with him likely coming back by the way making your point even more stupid.

If he plays a half he might as well play the whole thing. You want him to risk injury let him do it in garbage time too and protect next year's starter. Nuss handing it off after the half ain't worth shite.

Obviously. If we didn't have next year's likely starter on the team then who gives a shite. Since we do that changes the dynamic to wanting to prepare him before USC.

Very true, but it's the new norm. Josh Pate even suggested moving bowl games to before the next season as a kind of preseason exhibition.

Didn't miss anything. You saying it provides no benefit is dumb. The coaches would disagree with you.

Then why bother playing backup QBs at all? Apparently in game reps mean nothing. Playing week 0 means nothing. Playing in bowls means nothing. Playtime in general means nothing. Hell why even practice.

Seems more like that's your MO and I do feel sorry for you. I wasn't active during that fight so that's your thing not mine. Stop assuming things about others or rather implying malicious intent in substitute of discourse.

If he's named the starter "next year" no he wouldn't. Also weird commentary considering you're probably one of the ones praying we bring in "competition" and push him to transfer.
