I'm not crazy about unions but when you look at the salaries of say the CEOs of Ochsner, who is a major "not for profit," in the area writing the rules of the market, its disgusting.

A nurse will never make in a lifetime what these fat cats pay themselves in one year. They aren't on the frontlines of disease and can't even start a simple IV for a patient. The system is broken, that's for sure.

I hope LCMC and Ochsner nurses follow suit.

I have learned over the 30 years between 1987 until medically caused retirement in 2017 the worst three words ever put together “Health Care Industry”.

Look at the responsibilities and experience requirements of the CEO.

Nurses are fairly easily replaced, CEOs not so much.

Because the fat cats have a thousand times the responsibility.

Now do airline pilot and flight attendant.

Why not give some of that pay to the flight attendant?

You've fallen for the bullshite woke nonsense that has become so popular these days.

Executive compensation accounts for a whopping .8% of Oschner's total expenses. If the total salaries for the 20 highest paid employees—including the president/CEO—were diverted to the employees who deliver the day to day services, none of them would even notice the difference in their paychecks it would be such a small difference.

This whole, "Look at what the CEO makes while all of these employees are making $15 an hour" outrage is a complete red herring. It sounds good but means nothing. The CEO salary has nothing to do with lower employees wages.

If you can find it, one of the videos that made Ben Shapiro famous was him debating a couple of pointy headed professors several years ago about the proposed $15 minimum wage. He cited the CEO of Wal-Mart's salary, then divided that number by the number of employees to demonstrate that if his entire salary was diverted back to and split among all other Wal-Mart employees, each person would get an extra $10.

The professors had no reply to that.

The CEo could cut his salary down to 100k and it wouldnt even be enough to give $1/hr more to nurses

Then they should work to become the CEO if they want that level of comp and responsibility. Do the nurses get a cut of the NNU’s executive director’s speaking fees? Bonnie Castillo

The whole “well the CEO makes X and we only make Y” argument is weak AF when talking about pay.

The CEO is the head of the company and there are few people who can actually manage a company of that size. Compare that to nurses where 80% of the population can be taught how to start an IV, give a shot, and take vitals.

If you want to make an argument for pay comparing profits/reinvestments to wages you would have a better stance.

Oschner employs over 37,000 people.

$6,000,000 / 37,000 = $162.12

Assuming you're full-time (2080 hours) 162.12/2080hours = $.077.

The CEO could donate their salary to all the workers and only give each of them a 7-8 cent raise. They'd make an extra 162.12 a year. Let's not pretend the CEO's salary is what's standing between nurses and a better life.
