Why do you need your wife's permission to buy a car? Easier to ask for forgiveness.

Is her 4Runner paid off? Is your beater? If no, who will be making the 4Runner payments when she quits her job?

What kind of ride are you wanting? Can you afford it? Can you afford your living expenses and two car payments on only your income?

Kids are F'ing expensive. Also, that 2 years staying home turns into 10 REALLY fricking quick

My wife drives a nice 2023 4Runner and I drive a piece of shite 2009 vehicle. Want to buy another car, but wife says it’s a waste. What do OT? No pics of said wife

If she wants to drive the 2009 she can, assuming you guys can actually fit a new car in your budget. If she pushes back, push back harder. I'd agree with her if your car was 7 years or less.

Use it against her is my advice. Trade cars at least a week a month. She'll have a change of heart.

Give it a few more months. Used cars market slowed down. It's going to hit the new car market hard when people don't buy in on these bs Christmas holiday buying time they used to sucker people with.

IMO, a car is a tool to get you to accomplish things you can't do by sitting at home. Work, groceries, etc. If there's one fully functioning car with no issues then that's enough for our family. We're both with cars over 100k miles and waiting until we need to trade in the smaller for a larger vehicle, but they both work.

As long as you aren't throwing money into your beater car, keep riding until the wheels fall off. You will get the same return on it now that you would down the road.

Take the 4runner and run it into a tree.

Take the 2009 and run it into a tree.

Buy 1 bike. tell her she can get in better shape now

This is how you establish dominance.

If money is so tight that they can't afford for him to upgrade to a newer used vehicle, then buying her car was a catastrophic waste that should be remedied immediately.

My wife works from home and hates to drive. Up until recently, we only owned one car. We decided to go that route because we went almost 4 years without ever needing to use both cars at the same time. Our situation is obviously not the norm, but the average cost of ownership is something like $700 a month. Invest that money, take vacations, etc. if you're in a similar situation.

I got my beat up work truck.

Wife has her immaculate SUV.

For hauling crap to Goodwill we drive mine.

For nice dinners out we drive hers.

I understand the question. My answer is, if they can’t, they should sell her car and buy two cars that are older than her current vehicle but newer than his current vehicle.

We share 1 vehicle.

We live in downtown St. Pete and walk almost everywhere. I have a 10 minute drive to work and she has a few block walk to work.

We have not had ONE single issue with it so far and it’s been well over a year.
