Did Hoka start the giant shoe sole trend?

I bought a pair of Hokas upon a recommendation and within a couple of months I almost twisted my ankle three times. F' those things.
It seems other brands have caught on to the giant sole trend:

Most of the "comfort" brand shoes are uncomfortable as hell for people with big feet. I don't find them any more comfortable than a decent pair of Nike's. Shoes with bulky heavy soles are whack.

Nah. Max cushion didn't come from Hoka.

I don’t give a damn what people say about them. My Hoka Cliftons are some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve had.
The Bondi soles are ridiculous.

Pretty much
They started as a pretty niche brand meant for ultra trail running that was the opposite of the minimalist movement of the late 00s
Its weird seeing my 70 year old Mom wearing them now

It came from your mom. More cushion for the pushing. Her brand of shoes is Hooka.

IMO the most comfortable shoes are Sperry Topsiders with minimal soles. That's my go to since the '80s.

adidas ultraboosts have pretty big soles and were the trend 5-10 years ago

I would say the trend started with the filas shoes

I like the Hoka Arahi’s.
I can’t wear any of their other shoes though.

Ugliest shoes. Apparently popular with the 60+ crowd. ON are cultist shoes of choice. Then there’s the middle manager white sole types

Wife got me a pair of these and I fell down our carpet stairs on my way out for a workout bc the heel stuck out further than I was used to. Returned them that day. Comfy as shite but I completely embarrassed myself.
