This. Except mine is a music room (packed with various guitars, keyboards and amps AND a PC with a 55" tv/monitor for you-tube, football games AND life size porn!

Like usual I am way ahead of the OT on this. Been thinking this for many years. My plan is just to buy an older house when it’s that time in my life as most of them have more closed plans.

For the price of that TV station, you could probably buy a 50” smart tv for the porch and a decent soundbar.

I don’t want an open floor plan and I’m also not much of a tv guy

Are you going to define what a “small house” is? I have a feeling you’re gonna say something like 2000sqft but the vast majority of people lived in houses much smaller and had much bigger families than we do now…

why are you watching TV in the first place unless its the weekend?

and do you not cook? makes it a lot easier to visit with family if you arent stuck in the kitchen by yourself.

closed off houses suck!!

As an architect this makes me weep. I love separate rooms and spaces. Open floor plans are an abomination that combines all uses together into a horrible mish mash. But it makes everything feel bigger and makes the owners feel like they can host big parties more easily (which most never do).

They’re horrible.

I'm about to build a house and its going to be completely open concept...I figure if walls between a kitchen and the rest of the house are a bad idea the same concept goes for the shitter...just 4 exterior walls and a roof. Completely open. Will allow for maximum flexibility. If you did this with a raised computer floor you wouldn't even have to plan for plumbing drains. Imagine the parties you could have where NO one could leave the room for any reason....

I don't care for an open floor plan. I don't mind a living and dining area being combined but a kitchen should be isolated from the living area if for no other reason to keep me out of it while watching a game, for instance....

This is nasty and your house smells closed or open. Do that shite outside.

I’m trying to figure out a way to have a cook house as a separate unattached structure with a covered walkway that ties into both roofs. Newly renovated space offers a custom 10ft sinker cypress wet bar, pool table, putting green, dart board cove, and poker table.

Food runners (kids/women) are required to whistle as meals are being transported from the kitchen to main quarters.

We have a fancy kitchen with all the fanciest appliances in our open floor plan. And i have a man kitchen in my garage where the real cooking and drinking happens.

That’s what the second kitchen directly behind the show kitchen is for.

I don't like them either. I don't see the appeal of walking into the house and I'm in what I consider to be 3 rooms.

Oh but they have a barn door!

When will floor plans pivot back away from “open, open, open.”

I sort of appreciate the old differentiation of the various rooms.

My house is 20 years old and fairly open but the kitchen and main living room are separate. I like the separation a lot and don't care to go back to having the living and kitchen all one big area.

The foyer area with the dining and game room is pretty open for entertaining so I have the best of both worlds.

People who heat a can of Campbell's soup in the microwave for dinner probably don't see a problem with an open kitchen.

Bingo. You do not want me in your open plan while I'm searing or braising.

Here's the real problem: in 10 years people are going to look at open floor plan and be like "wtf is this a gymnasium???"

Just like we look at old trends and make fun of them.
