Thoughts on Saltburn (spoilers in comments)

Well, I will give the movie credit in that it certainly is memorable. Honestly that’s the best way to describe it. Memorable.
There are movies that cover the same topics but never quite like this, wrapped up in its weird perversity.
I do not think the trailers accurately preview the movie effectively. I think the trailer is a red herring for the point of the movie, which is is a character study of a loser. I don’t think this movie is an indictment of the wealthy
Now there’s a version of this movie that keeps the drama just on that level of friendship drama and I’d probably have preferred that.
There’s a portion of this movie where I fully got the main character till I didn’t.
This movie has some fricking weird sex stuff. Like WTF weird sex stuff that had the entire audience like “oh my god”. I got grossed out. It does have kinda a point to it existing and raises some weird questions about what’s actually happening. But it made everyone feel uncomfortable. Everyone.
The acting is amazing.

Yeah, that’s why I said I thought the trailer was a red herring. The trailer gives off the vibes of a sexy stylish thriller.
And it is kinda thriller. Kinda a comedy. Kinda a character study. But a much more malicious and mean spirited probe into the life of a loser who ends up in a situation he should never have been in.

This is basically a Talented Mr Ripley type of movie with a bit more of an outlandish lead.
I do though think what happens in the movie wasn’t a foregone conclusion despite what’s revealed.
Total spoilers:
He ends up killing most of the rich family to get all their stuff

Acting was superior but the plot was kinda loosely defined and it turned into a debauchees movie of sex and wealth. Performances from Barry, Jacob, and Archie were fantastic. I did like the ending though.

Lots of gayness, and the ending felt super tacked on. Like they didn't know how to end it, so they called up M. Night and let him take over.

Too many spoilers man, you should let people experience the cringe for themselves. Now a bunch of people who might have watched this will stay away. I liked the movie, there were some good performances from Barry Keoghan and Rosamund Pike. My biggest gripe was not the cringey gross stuff, but that it felt like a weird, mutated clone of Ripley; the story wasn't original enough.
