Bob Iger says creators at Disney have lost sight of what their jobs should be.

The full quote (said at a meeting with investors):

So it seems like Bob is now admitting in very diplomatic terms, that the company's woke turn has kinda fricked it. For people not in the know, the Disney movie division looks on course to lose close to a billion dollars this year due to a succession of flops. For reference, these are Disney main blockbusters releases this year: (
>Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (MCU): $200 million budget, mild flop.
>Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (MCU) : $250 million budget, their only hit of the year.
>The Little mermaid (Live action remake): $240 million budget, mild flop.
>Elementals (Pixar): $200 million budget, barely broke even.
>Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (LucasFilm): $300 million budget, one of the biggest bombs of all time.
>Haunted Mansion (WDP): $150 million budget, bombed.
>The Marvels: $220 million budget, one of the biggest bombs of all time (again!)
>Wish (WDAS): $175 million budget, it just came out but after having the second worst ever opening for a Disney animated movie, it's safe to say, another bomb.
Iger's just saying that now because investors are furious though. If he's really serious about righting the ship, he needs to start by firing several employees starting by the woman who represents everything bad about modern Disney (Kathleen Kennedy).

He adds that stories infused with “positive messages for the world” can be great but that it shouldn’t be the primary job.

I believe Desantis doesn't want to talk about Disney anymore, since his feud with them didn't really help his campaign.

The problem is the employees.
They hired activist "creators" with no children of their own, and now their organization has a cancer in it that's effing up the profits.

This is story telling entropy at its finest.

Was the world begging for a second shot at Haunted Mansion?
The Eddie Murphy version in the early 2000s tanked too IIRC.
That is a general trend for Disney… they are making a lot of projects which either have no interest from large audiences or they are doing things that intentionally turn off large audiences then blame those audiences for the work failing.
There wasn’t a demand for Haunted Mansion, Marvels, etc.
Elemental and Wish had little to no visibility and that says a lot about Disney’s faith in them that they didn’t throw a ton of money into pushing them like most other animated films.
Indy hasn’t recovered since Crystal Skull and everything that had come out on Dial Of Destiny before release reemphasized that the film should never have been made.
Etc.
They are of the belief that they can throw any shite out there as a tent pole release and it will make a ton of money. They got disabused of that after a year where only one tent pole was able to stand up.

Years ago I went to Epcot due to family pressure despite my lack of desire. Living in NYC, I see all of the cultures of the world every day.
The one thing I noted was that many of the announcer spoke with lisp affectation.

No Bob, you ran off the good creators.
Hired activists. They havent changed. They are what they are. You changed the company, you eliminated the competitive advantage that made Disney what it was.

If only the Disney CEO could do something about this..

Iger is only admitting what most of us recognized several years ago ……

You politards must have serious positions with DIS. You sure are obsessed

Clear that Disney has ruined itself by going woke but I also wonder if these low numbers are also caused by people just not going to the movies anymore and waiting for it to come out on the multiple streaming platforms that are available.

The problem was with Bob Chapek who let this filth infiltrate Disney.
Iger came back on board to right the ship and maybe hasn’t been aggressive as he should but he’s not for the woke agenda either. He probably should take the gloves off and not be as delicate about it anymore.

Bingo!
They should go hire the writers of Bluey.

Don’t believe anything is changing until you see them get rid of the DEI dashboards, hiring practices and activist board of directors.
Until that happens all of what he’s saying is just talk because all the people responsible for this are still working there, much like A-B after the Bud Light debacle.
“Uhh let’s run some ads with normal people and American flags, these mouth breathers in the fly over states will forget about all of this in a month.”
