2 years into the Kelly tenure and I'll say this

it hasn't been boring.
I thought Kelly was a good hire and the total W/L is about what I thought to this point, but I expected it to be more ball-control boring offense and solid defense based on what he did at ND. This has been a roller coaster ride with winning a division championship on the ballsy 2-pt conversion to beat Bama last year, the #1 offense and the shitty defense this year.
I saw none of this coming...I can't wait to see what happens next.

Next year we’ll have the Iowa defense and offense

2021 (before CBK) - 30-something scholarship guys in the trip to a bowl game where a WR started at QB and threw 3 TDs.
2022 - nothing to lose and ended up in the SEC Championship game. Whooped the shite out of a depleted Purdue. Beat Bama in OT as the fog rolled in.
2023 - Jayden putting on an incredible Heisman performance throughout the season even under poor defensive circumstances. Bright future ahead with some returning pieces.
Losing game 1 of every season since 2020 has probably been what makes this left painful to deal with every year. If we start out 1-0 it's "natty or bust" and while I'd live to be in the national championship every year, it's not super realistic yet and I'm truly enjoying the ride, even if it means we have a couple lows.
I'm overly optimistic and have thoroughly enjoyed the changes that the program is going through.

Agreed but boy do I miss the LSU defenses of old. Bring that back and this will truly be something special at LSU. He has to fix this defense and I believe he will. I hope it’s sooner than later but I like what he’s done so far.
I think Matt House is a good DC but he needs talent to work with and I’m not sure he has time to bring that here or if he has the ability to with such a depleted roster he started with. We really need proven elite recruiters across the staff on that side, who know the landscape, have that reputation already, and can get these young players to play at an elite level. A great motivational guy who already has the players ear and these elite HS players attention. I believe Kelly can get that done.

Ed Orgeron captured lightning in a bottle with a transfer Heisman trophy quarterback, 2 first round NFL wide receivers, and a subpar defense. He went 15-0.
Brian Kelly captured lightning in a bottle with a transfer Heisman trophy quarterback, 2 first round NFL wide receivers, and a subpar defense. He is 9-3.
But it is impossible to predict the future.

and a subpar defense
Orgeron’s 2019 subpar defense was 31st in the nation, Kelly’s 2023 subpar defense was 101st. There are varying degrees of “subpar.”

And that was against a gruesome schedule. That defense played a little uninspired for a while, because the offense was shelling teams, but when they dropped us in the seeding the defense focused and absolutely dominated a murderers row of opponents through the end of the season, the SEC Championship and the playoffs.
That was a very good defense. A very good defensive line (3 of 4 made the NFL including a first round draft choice), and a GREAT back seven with NFL all-stars everywhere.

He squashed a dumpster fire and has a solid base for a great decade ahead. I am proud to have BK on our team

2019 was not a subpar defense... I dont understand why people keep saying this. Bama & Texas were the only games that were a shootout.

“Lightening in a bottle” my arse. JD is the most developed player in the country. Don’t watch football, do you? He is light years better at throwing & pocket awareness than he was a year ago. It’s called coaching.

The good news is that next year, if we were to lose a game or two we still won't technically be out of it. Hell, even with 3 losses this year LSU is just low and outside. The goal from now on changes. Just get to the finish line with 2 or less losses, and be playing your best at the end of the season.

When it looks like we get the #1 qb, #1 rb, #2 wr in the 2025 class... This is gonna be a fun offense to watch for quite a while
