Reports out of Camp

Wanted to double back and recall the preseason camp reports which were that JD and the receivers were torching the Defense in every drill and scrimmage and it wasn’t particularly close.
Also, that the CBs were going to be an issue and that they were moving Perk everywhere, hinting that House hadn’t defined a role for him and built his D around personnel
In the past, especially in the O and Miles era, we had to rely on coaches, who would lie and the limited practice press saw.
In the BK era, he gives unprecedented access and is honest about his ball club
I’ll be watching the spring reports closely for Nuss’s development, emergence of a #1 wr and obviously the D because those reports will be an actual indicator of our progress
Agree?

BK also told us that we weren’t ready to compete with the teams like UGA and we all thought he was sandbagging. He was telling us what we didn’t want to hear.

Ruffino pretty much nailed the things that we would be good at and areas of concern that could give us problems this year in his practice reports. And everyone of them turned out to to be accurate.
Jaydens accuracy was greatly improved and was the clear number 1 qb. Malik couldn't be covered and offense moved the ball at will. Secondary struggled just about every practice. Lbs struggled in coverage. Defensive line struggled getting pressure and were dominated by offensive line and that pretty much describes our season.

He also said we were a year away… we’re not even close to a year away

I remember him telling us that in the spring about team being 2-3 yrs away from completing with UGA and Bama consistently, but we as fans didn’t wanna here it because of SEC West chip last yr

Absolutely correct. There was no competition against the WR group. Everyone on offense knew we had an issue with our defensive backfield.

Maybe we should believe him this time he’s been a judge of this stuff at a high level for a long time

Oh my sweet summer child. He is projected to be a top 10 pick in the next NFL draft. No chance in hell he is coming back nor should he.

Good point. In August, I thought the fact that Sage Ryan was playing CB over chestnut was a good thing…. Boy, was I wrong.

He didn’t prepare us for the House scheme. The lack of talent is forgivable. Paying top 5 coordinator money for what he ran out there isn’t.

Things I remember from early interviews:
Jayden Daniels: “We have the best D-line in the country”
Sage Ryan: “Duce Chestnut is ‘that guy’ “
Brian Kelly: “no substitute for experience and seeing plays the way Omar sees them”

Well have similair year next year. If anything, a game worse. We're not a year away from competing with UGA for sure. Plus Bama was the most beatable this year that they've ever been.
It's gonna take time, but if we make some moves on defense, we can get there in a couple of years.

They are not a year away with this roster.
Plenty of holes to fill.

What exactly did he say we were a year away from? Bet you can’t answer that.

Not trying to hijack the thread but when I look back at his angry post-game comment after FSU that “we aren’t who we thought we were” seemed like a slam on the players at the time but I am now thinking he was talking about the defensive coaches(?)

I didn’t get that comment expecting new QB, RB, WRs, and our consistent problem at DB.
There is talent but little experience.
I would have liked to see some of the younger WRs contributing more this season to take next step as starters in 2024.

I remember Scarborough and Songy warning us that the defense, particularly the secondary wasn't going to be good in the Smoky Investment team practice report.
