My wife and I and our ten year old daughter would like to travel overseas next year. My mother in law visited Italy and wasn’t impressed. I’ve never been out of the country, so please anyone/everyone chime in with legit recommendations. Thanks in advance

All of my overseas travel was for work, so very limited on being able to really get into sight seeing. With that being said, By far the most beautiful, nice people and awesome food was Israel. I know that might be out of the questions right now, but highly recommend it.

You have to give us more than that.
Are you interested in natural beauty? Wildlife? Old castles, palaces, and churches/mosques/temples? Food? Unique cultural experiences?
How do you like to travel? Do you want to take it easy and relax on your vacation? Or hiking, snorkeling, and an active vacation?
Since you are taking your 10-year-old, are you going in the summer? Or another time?
And about how long of a trip are you talking about?

Probably a week. I’m thinking something similar to Italy maybe. Tropical isn’t out the question either. It will probably be next summer. I’ve always wanted to go to Greece, or Ireland. I think we’re open to anywhere. Just looking for people to share their best experiences I guess.

My favorites are France (expensive), Hawaii (also expensive), and Argentina (cheap)

Your MIL sounds crazy, difficult to please or a combination of both. Italy is fantastic and I would highly recommend it.

Scotland, if your family wants castles, hiking, nice people, history, and simple food.
Provence for a base to see Roman sites, stone age, abbeys, castle [walled cities], decent people, beaches, and very good food.

There’s your answer. You don’t need to come here with such a broad question. Athens paired with Santorini and/or another island will not disappoint. Just go during shoulder season to avoid the crowds.

Your MIL was not impressed with Italy?
MILs are not always right.
I would get a second opinion.

Her biggest complaint was the food. She said it was so bad that they actually ate Chinese food instead.

Keep it simple your first time out:
Caribbean all inclusive (Mexico or Dominican Republic)
Costa Rica
England/Scotland/Ireland (since English is the native language)
Take a cruise and get a taste of multiple islands/places

If Ireland is already in your radar, do it. Especially with a 10 year old.
My family of 4 went last year and it was awesome. Spent 8 nights in country and honestly never had a bad moment. Magical place.

Off the Florida Keys, there's a place called Kokomo
That's where you want to go to get away from it all

Been to the keys. I couldn’t find Kokomo to save my life! Weird! I did find a chicken on my hood though.

Your MIL went to Italy and didn't like the Italian food? And this is what you're basing your first international vacation on...If you don't like Italian food in Italy, international travel may not be for you.
Go to Italy.
