I hunt in MS and the neighboring clubs hunt with dogs and shoot everything. there is one spot of our club that gets no pressure and i was wondering if feeding them protein in that area is worth it or in other areas of our property.

No. Not even close to offering a measurable, noticeable improvement to your deer herd.

Protein is only a small portion, it's more to do with genetics and age and from the sounds of it, it seems that bucks around there would be hard pressed to get any age on them.

if its in the area that gets zero pressure (no dogs, no one hunts the property next to it), you still wont see growth?

i agree. i can see why some states have outlawed deer hunting with dogs. i dont think it is even hunting in my opinion and i apologize if i offend anyone but when you are working 40 hours a week and then you see dogs in your field when you just want to get a nice deer, it can really chap your arse

If you mean possibly attract and hold some deer on that quieter part, the answer is maybe, if you’re consistent. As far as growing bigger deer, you’ll never see a difference without dozens of feeders and tons of protein a month, every month.

How many acres are you talking about 50-500 even 1k you’re not keeping that deer on your property. Some deer may keep a smaller home range and if you give them all they need then they may hold to a tighter core area.
Protein pellets are only part of “supplemental” feeding and to be effective you need to put out several tons and will have to commit to it for several years to see the benefits.
Food plots with year around forage are more cost effective if you have the space, or mowing native shrubs and briars each spring if you don’t have enough plot areas will be more effective.

How else you gonna stop the dogs? You can't just whistle and yell "here Fido!"

This thread has the potential to really go places!

To give a serious response. I don't think you are going to get your money's worth feeding protein to free range deer unless your land is described by Township and Range without the need of designating a Section.

Deer hunting with dogs is trashy

The owner being able to control the dogs is an illusion. When they cross the property line and run wild on your land, the own has to walk all over to retrieve them and gives some half arse apology then goes about his merry day, knowing that it wasn’t the first time and won’t be the last

Please, please, please start a thread with this as the title. We haven't had a good "dog hunting is trashy" thread in awhile and the new posters need to see one.

2k acres is a lot of land so i feel like you have some leverage with it but then again not really
