Doing a Texas road-trip next week for family vacation, wife, 16 year old son and myself Sunday and Monday night in Dallas. Tuesday night in Austin. Wednesday and Thursday night in San Antonio. And Friday and Saturday night in Houston. Already have some plans but looking to hear any and all suggestions for food, attractions or anything else. Thanks in advance.

Any way to skip Longview and do 2 nights in Dallas?

Also, between Austin and San Antonio hit the back roads. Great scenery through the hill country and you can avoid the shite show that is I-35.

Stop at the Czech Stop in West between Dallas and Austin for some breakfast kolaches and try and hit Salt Lick on your way our of Austin.

That’s a lot of driving
A houston San Antonio trip or a Dallas Austin trip might be better to have more time in each place
Just getting around Dallas and houston is a lot of driving and traffic in itself

Not sure what you want to see in Dallas but I would scratch that and spend a night in the hill country in someplace such as Wimberley or Boerne. Maybe go hike up Enchanted Rock (get reservations).

The Texas Ranger Museum is just off of I-35 in Waco.

Just back from a drive through TX to visit relatives. No advice re: places to go; just a tip re: driving in that state. On our return trip home, we were passed on the right hand shoulder of the road by several vehicles, all speeding. I’d forgotten to warn my partner to pull over to facilitate passing if anyone flashed their lights at us. We also witnessed the same thing happen to drivers in the opposite lane of traffic. There was no long line of cars at the time, just several impatient and aggressive drivers.

It's Texas, we have stretches of road that are signed at 85 MPH. People here drive crazy but you need to be in the right lane if you aren't passing regardless of how fast you're going.

So much this! Enchanted Rock is awesome. Lost Maples (It's a little more of a drive) is really pretty this time of year as well.

Dallas and Houston are just big cities with all the normal big city stuff. Houston does have some really good museums and NASA. If you had to go to Houston, I'd say go to the Museum of Natural Science. It's one of the best in the country, with all the dinosaurs. My daughter (no pics) recently went with friends to NYC and the friends wanted to go to the Museum of Natural History there. She was disappointed because she felt Houston's was better.

We aren't aggressive! We just like to get where we are going!

If you do stop in Dallas, I’d recommend booking a room at the Gaylord Texan for your Dallas stop and do the ICE exhibit and all the Christmas festivities there.

Either on your way to or leaving San Antonio, stop in Lockhart or Luling and try one of the old bbq places. (Black’s, Kruez, City Market)

Some of those cities have IFly, an indoor skydiving place if you want something different.

Edited. Did 2 nights in Dallas. Czech stop was awesome thanks! Checked out the Kennedy park and museum. Went to a Harry Potter thing at little elm park in Dallas last night it was pretty well done. If you have someone that’s a potter fan I do recommend it. Stopped in Waco today at the Magnolia market for the wife. This is the most white woman place that has ever been. It’s very well executed and they definitely understand their target demographic. Went to the Branch Davidian compound memorial. It’s not much to see but like where Kennedy was killed a little piece of the freedom and ideals of this country died there with those people.

Every one of them who comes to Texas wants to go there most of all.

Went there done that but don’t miss Waco Mammoth Museum. Actual virtual dig in shelter with familial mammoths and I think Sabre tooth. Discovered mammoths in 1978.
