Was it common knowledge that he was gonna be a great player the next year? I watched some of it the other day and he just seemed like a nothing. But I can’t really remember if lsu fans knew he was gonna be great or what the atmosphere was like. 2019 JB caught me completely off guard I know that.

He was 200-1 to win the Heisman and off the board at most places so no…

He did show signs the last two games of the year.

Nope.

I remember during SEC Media Days ahead of the 2019 season when Burrow told Finebaum that he thought LSU would average 50 ppg, everyone laughed, LSU fans included.

There was a minority of LSU fans (but a decent contingent) that thought Myles Brennan gave LSU a better chance in 2018.

I knew he was gonna be a baller during the UCF game when he took that hit and then came back in and led that team to victory….

How, the frick, would it have been "common knowledge" he was going to be a great player?

Wasn’t his OL a bit of a mess in 2018?

I didn’t know LSU would be that great. I also didn’t expect Jaden Daniels to have the season he’s having.

If LSU doesn’t hire Joe Brady in 2019 to bring in a real passing attack, Burrow doesn’t get nearly the same chance to shine.

I think we all saw flashes and knew we were going to improve greatly

But anyone that tells you they knew he’d go on to win the heisman by a record % of votes, go undefeated, win a national title and break a zillion records, is simply lying

His explosion was sudden

It was the Tank for Tua year. No one saw Joe coming, LSU fans included

I think a "mess" is a stretch, but it wasn't the greatest, which made the calls for Brennan to play even more hilarious considering he was a statue.

Never lost another college game after that hit.

He just needed a full off-season for Coach O to develop him properly and undo all the bad habits he learned from Meyer.

Correct. A lot talk about Brady. But Joe was just special and at another level.

The Joe Burrow we know today was born after this moment:

The Georgia game of ‘18 is when I knew he was different, UCF solidified my thought in that he was gonna have a good year in ‘19. Nobody ever thought he would have the single greatest season for a QB in college football history

I thought rumor was
He either dislocated his shoulder prior to that game or has an AC separation

And no that’s not an an excuse for getting dominated in the game.

2 things in 2018 gave me hope he could be good:
Marched the team down the field against a tough Auburn team on the road to win the game. He had a play that was some sort of pass that lobbed over the defender. Showed he was cool under pressure.
The UCF hit showed he had toughness, mental and physical.
