She's right, but no one's ever going to get elected spouting something like this.
It will be brought up during the general election. The projected 20-25% cut in benefits is only 8 years away.
All politicians seeking the highest office should have a plan.

That system (SS) has been so corrupted it is beyond redemption.
If I were President Trump my second EO in 2024 would be to end SS in 6 months. Those Citizens drawing SS benefits would continue to receive them until they assume room temperature.
Those that have paid into it will get their money back over the next several years in payments with interest.
And then have Congress pass a law that nothing like it could ever be started again.
If folks are too lazy or dumb to do something about their retirement plan then that is on them.

I can tell you without a doubt the largest portion of society who want the retirement age raised for Social Security are people with a net worth over $10 million.

How about frick her and frick the federal government and let me invest my SS so I can retire 10 years earlier thus creating a need for jobs at a quicker rate then waiting until I die to quit working. frick HER!!

Boy she's really killing it these days. It's like a 2002 Neocon time traveled directly 2023, while everyone else evolved over the past 20 years.

When SS was started life expectancy was 62, now it is 77-78. That is the issue.
When reforms took place in the early eighties and retirment age was raised to 67 life expectancy was 74. It is not that much higher now.

Life expectancy is going down
So is the number of people that are willing to work to pay in to social security. Birth rates are down too and that doesn't help the situation.
The only thing that could save S.S is if Taylor Swift and the football player get married and start having babies. That would change the behavior of the populace and the country would expirience a baby boom not seen since the end of WWII.

Are we talking about insurance or things like social security?
Social Security is an Annuity so it does fall under the Insurance umbrella.

Hot take: there shouldn’t even be a “retirement age”.
There isn’t. You can retire whenever you want.
So many people in this thread don’t have any idea what Social Security even is, yet are willing to simply repeat tropes ad nauseam in this bitch fest.
Haley is referring to the eligibility age to receive SS benefits. She’s not trying to tell people when they can and can’t retire.

Men's life expectancy was just lowered to 73 from 78.
Bitch can eat a bag of donkey balls.
I'll retire when I want, not when the bitch says.

raise your FICA taxes.
I think most reasonable people would be open to an increase in FICA taxes with other changes to stabilize social security by increasing requirements such as more quarters to be eligible and benefit amount adjustments.

You're bitching and moaning about something you don't even understand.
Social Security is, among other things, retirement INSURANCE. That's why they call it insurance. It is NOT an investment scheme. You and your moral outrage just look foolish.
Oh, it has "insurance" in the name. Well, by God, that settles it.
Wait, there's the whole thing about it not being optional. If you are a wage earner, you are forced to pay into a system with the promise you'll see it back when you retire.
When you cut and pasted from Wikipedia, you didn't include these sections. Weird.
quote:
Social Security is funded primarily through payroll taxes called Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) or Self Employed Contributions Act (SECA). Wage and salary earnings from covered employment, up to an amount determined by law (see tax rate table), are subject to the Social Security payroll tax.
quote:
Social Security payroll taxes are collected by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
Debate something on its merits instead of attempting to be a condescending douchebag.
When you take money from one person, by force, and then give it to another, it's immoral - whether you call it "insurance" or not.
If it's voluntary, that's a different story. In this case, for wage earners, it isn't.

Semantics. I'm talking about programs one voluntarily participates in vs. those that are compulsory. FICA withdrawals are a TAX, regardless of the "I" in the name. They are collected by the IRS and wage earners, with a few exceptions, can't opt out.

Life expectancy is currently declining I’ve heard. Bad time.

It's not semantics. It is an annuity. Just because you have to participate in it does not change that fact.

You can raise the retirement age or raise your FICA taxes. That will eventually be your choice.
Imagine if we secured the border and cut off all foreign aid… I don’t think this would be an issue anymore.
