You baws nearing and in your 40s, don't waste it. I'm 57 and looking back, 40s are the best decade.
Mid-late 20s, you're trying to get established in your career, your 30s are split between young kids and career. By your 40s your kids are more self sufficient and hopefully you are stabilized in your career making decent money.
You're still plenty young and have bounds of energy, don't fall in the trap of being "old." Get out exercise, hike, hunt, camp. Your kid isn't going pro, so don't sell your life out to travel ball, if you kid is good enough, travel ball will come to him.
Take time and do stuff for yourself, live a little, go on guys trips or alone. Go to all SEC stadiums or MLB stadiums, see the Grand Canyon, follow your favorite band. Live your 40s.

Upvote. It’s approaching for me and as you said I’m in a great place. Done Wiping my kids asses I hope, done giving kids baths, and career/ business is finally somewhat on cruise control and money isn’t bad. Cheers

I agree 100%. I'm getting closer to the end of my 40s and it's been a fun ride.

I'm 35 so slowly approaching my 40s.. by the time I hit 40, my kids will be 10 and 6.. so I think this applies to me.

The main difference on your 40s is money. Should be killing it in your career with most of the debt gone. It’s a great feeling

Mine were from 35 to 45. I had some health problems that took me a while to get over and figure out exactly what was causing them. Now I'm 51 and feel better now than when I was 45. I was diagnosed with type II diabetes in May and believe it or not it the best thing that has happened to me. I completely stopped eating sugar and now I feel better than I have in years.

An optimistic post. What the hell is going on here!
But I agree. Just started my 40s and it’s a good place. Out of the triage of babies, but kids are all still at home and talking to me. Comfortable enough in my career to know at the end of the day I’m going to pay my bills. By how high I clear that bar doesn’t have me so bothered anymore. Just generally not so hard on myself or others anymore. I’m probably as good now as I’ll ever be at pretty much everything I enjoy, and am just here to enjoy it.
Alternatively - aging parents is tough.

This. You aren't in your 20s anymore, but you ARE NOT old. People will tell you that you're GETTING OLD, so you are tempted to slow down and back up. But, its a lie. Everyone wants you to join them in their out of shape laziness. Get up and get moving. You are young enough to have tons of energy and do all kinds of things. You won't play pro sports, but you can do real life stuff. Every ache and pain doesn't mean you're getting old. You just might need to change your diet as you age so you can eat food that fuels you instead of weighs you down.
Go live, man. You have plenty of time to be old and tired when you're 80. Your 40s ain't it. The OP is right.

I'm 48 and still scuba dive, run a 5k or whatever. 40s are a fun time.
Kids out of the house doing their thing, it's a great time to return to yourself.
