I posted in an earlier thread, House did bring some level of optimism when he was hired. He had really good scoring defenses at Kentucky and brought some NFL experience as well. Obviously, the hire hasn't panned out like we hoped, but he did have some qualifiers that made him at least appealing on paper.

I think position coaches have as much to do with lack of development more than house. We can scheme all we want but the players are not getting better. We need better than an assistant special teams coach developing our CB’s and we need a proven DL and safeties coach with a history of developing players. Our Defensive staff is pitiful and have proven they can’t recruit.

I think House is probably a fine DC with good talent.

We have serious talent issues that expose him as a game planner and a schemer.

he has shown 0 creativity with Perkins too.

we weren’t bad last year when our secondary was terrible and we had DEs who could do something.

It went something like this, “You got really drunk last night Coach Kelly! Here are some pictures of you with whores and sheep! Now let’s talk about that defensive coordinator opening!”

We (fans) have to be creative to find the positives on defense this year. I get that. It's a train wreck

But what was it about House in particular that sold him to Kelly? There were likely literally dozens of candidates Kwlly could've hired and he landed on House.

My best guess is the game is morphing into a DT QB era (think Mahomes) and House convinced Kelly he was ahead of others with zone schemes. I really don't know. That's why I'm asking.

Positive we are going 10-3; Offense will be good next season and next year is a 12 team playoff where anything can happen; D will be addressed after season enjoy the ret of year..

Ok. But why did Kelly roll with House to begin with?

FTR, why should any sober man invest confidence in someone who defers the whole defense to next year? What the heck were we doing from 1/1/23 till now?

When the camera on TV flashes to House you can tell he is done. He has the same Brook Trout look as Mike Archer did as our head coach after Arnspargar left. Confused, beaten and knowing he's about to be fried.

I’m sorry but House’s 2 year stint as DC at Kentucky doesn’t impress me like most. He ran Mark Stoops’s D, much like many DC’s in Saban’s early years. Stoops was most credited and still is with KY’s D. Is KYs D great, no, but pretty damn good with limited talent. Stoops was and still is the brains behind KYs D.

My guess is Kelly saw House as a former SEC DC who wasn’t fired but “promoted” to a NFL position; he wanted White and saw House as a clone; Badger probably gave him a high recommendation from KC; his former DC’s Elko, Lea and Freeman weren’t available so he couldn’t go to the familiarity well like he did with his OC.

If I recall correctly, all of the D position coaches were hired before House since he was still tied up with the NFL season. There's clearly a disconnect between his scheme and execution at the position level. Maybe a shakeup with the staff under House is all that's needed?
