To actually go rewatch the game and see why our defense is bad.
Its not House at all.
Its players, mainly LBs and this is not new. Even Perk had a bad game but didnt quit. There were so many missed tackles and angles this game. Speights doesnt want to hit head on or risk aggrevating his injury. Penn is so gullible and iq is low. The DL is not a unit; no surprise.
Its Kelly because he is playing upperclassmen instead of best player and not rotating front 7 enough. This I think is his philosophy which if it is will be detrimental to the program.

Whose job is it to coach and develop the defensive players?

Oh how could our record holding HC be held accountable.
The buck stops with him. He has first say on who plays.

This defense is full of 4 and 5 star recruits. Quit with the bullshite. The coaching sucks.

Kelly himself said it was poor scheming.

So…the linebackers decided all on their own to drop 15+ yards into coverage and not have a spy for basically the whole game?

I agree, the talent level on defense isn't what we're used to at LSU, but it isn't truly bad...
- Perkins is a generational talent that was misused for the first part of the season, and is now being schemed out by opposing defenses.
- Penn has more potential than he's shown (or been allowed to show) this year.
- Maason Smith was a beast when he last played a full season, and his physical gifts haven't suddenly evaporated.
- The Weeks boys have shown enormous potential, but have seen little effective playing time all season.
- We lost Brooks, Zy, and Wingo, but let's be honest: they were playing better than the rest of the team, but it wasn't enough to make the defense even remotely competitive.
- And, for the record, even if LSU only has 3-stars left on their roster, they still aren't scrubs that would be lucky if they got offers from a Div-III school. They have some potential.
All of the defensive problems we've seen this year - ALL of them - are because of coaching (or lack thereof). With good (or even decent) coaching, the talent LSU has right now should play much better than they have so far.
I mean, for the sake of sanity, we had to go get Pete Jenkins to coach basic DL skills after several games were already played!! Shouldn't House, as the DC, have forcefully made the case to CBK for better coaching performance if his assistant and position coaches weren't getting it done?
Lack of adequate defensive coaching and player development is squarely on House. Failure to recognize the defensive problems and force the DC to make the needed changes is on Kelly.
Kelly whiffed on addressing his part of the problem in fall camp and at the start of the season. That's true, but what's also true is now it's his problem to clean up (it's obvious that House isn't up to the task, at least to me).
So, no, I disagree that it's all on the players. They aren't up our "normal" LSU standards, but they aren't scrubs. With decent coaching they would have been playing better. Lacking that, and any hope of coaching improving, it's time for CBK to make the change - and better sooner than later.
Just my opinion, y'all.

Then why was Daniels a mediocre run first QB last season, and a
Heisman candidate this season?
He had been starting about four years.
One year with our QB Coach and he is a different player.
Great Coach and a talented dedicated student made the difference. He had the mental and physical tools, just needed the right coach.

You mean the main person whose sole responsibility at LSU is to coach the defense is not responsible for said defense's performance?

CBK said they should have used a spy?
Why didn’t anyone think of this during the game?

Kelly should override House, but it is 100% him playing the guys he does. Explain the offense doing the exact opposite- starting 2 freshmen tackles and a TE last year, with 2 more freshmen rotating on the OL, 2 freshmen TEs rotating on offense and a freshman RB playing in front of 4 vets with a lot more experience this season?
This problem is on one side of the ball only. House doesn’t play younger guys unless he’s forced to. Kelly should force him to, but at this point, just play it out and move on in the offseason.

Everything I’ve gathered from my source is House sounds like a huge tool. Another Matt Canada type of personality. Insistent on doing things his way and basically got Cain fired in the spring in addition to another staffer before that. I think Kelly saying what he did in his press conference today is equivalent to calling House out. He’s done it once before when he said defense needs to be more creative. I also think House knows he’s cooked based on exasperation he showed during the Bama game. He’s in over his head and both he and Kelly know it now. I’d consider taking away his play calling duties if I were Kelly but I’m not sure that he will with only 3 games left. Rest assured House will find a job back in the NFL in offseason. Writing is on the wall.
