I’m sorry… but are you, and the others, taking the stance that a male cannot hit a ball harder than a female??
we’re taking the stance that any girl on that team could hit the ball that hard and this isn’t a good example of why Men shouldn’t play with women.

I bet it feels like shite to lose your teeth.
One second, you are enjoying high school sports and going out with your friends - getting some of those extra curriculars while having some fun. The next...you look like you are from Alabama and have to eat from a tube until they can fit you for new teeth.

So yes. It’s the stance that girls can hit a ball as hard as a male.
Thanks for the honesty.

Instead of DOING something about it, administration’s solution will be to require all players to wear face masks like the goalies do. Doesn’t even look like that “slap shot” was even directed anywhere near “at the goal”.
No it's pretty clear that they gave it to the big one to nail into the goal when they didn't have a clear shot at all.
That being said....black eyes and missing teeth are possible with varsity field hockey for both sexes. When there is a huge delta of upper body strength between one player and everyone else, there is a much higher risk of someone getting seriously injured like this. That's the case with all sports.
We separate groups by age classes for that reason. We should be doing the same for sexes too.

Sure it is.
He should never have been allowed to compete with girls.

How do you feel about these statements?
quote:
Rep. Dave Considine, a Democrat from Baraboo, made the remarks on Thursday as lawmakers passed a bill aimed at protecting women’s sports from men who believe they are women. This type of legislation, which has been enacted in at least 20 other states, would require athletes to play on teams that correspond to their biological sex instead of their “gender identity.”
“My granddaughter, who is playing college sports, I asked her about this when we had this two years ago, and she said, ‘you know what? If a trans woman was competing against me in the sport, then that just means if that person’s better than me, I need to work harder,” Considine claimed, before calling concerned parents “selfish” for not wanting their opportunities stolen from them by men.
“Some parents are concerned that their daughter might miss out on a scholarship. They might miss out on playing for this team or that team. Boy, that doesn’t sound like community. That sounds like selfishness. I’m sorry to label it that way, but that sounds like what it is to me. ‘I’m only worried about myself, I’m not worried about building the team and having my school have a powerful team,’” he claimed.

It's a higher end Boston suburb where 4th and 5th gen millionares are very common. I'm sure the injured girls parents are (or were) highly progressive.
There isn't a great option, but what they are doing with girls sports right now is absolutely wrong. It is going to discourage more girls from participating in team sports which is the opposite thing that we need to be doing.

extremely common field hockey injury.
eliminate all trans athletes and this will still happen constantly.

if you’re using an incident to illustrate the point that this is dangerous, it should show something that wouldn’t happen if trans athletes weren’t allowed to play.
that’s not the case here.

The average proportion of field hockey players who had sustained at least one dentofacial injury varied from 12.7% (95% CI 8.5% to 17.0%) among junior and senior players to 45.2% (95% CI 39.3% to 51.0%) among elite players.

12.7% slightly above 1 in 8
it’s a sport where you slap hard balls through the air and don’t wear any kind of mask. this happens

A high percentage of boxers endure facial injuries during matches. Should we let men box women because a facial injury is a facial injury?

Ok, please define the criteria so we know what is a good example going forward.
