If the NCAA gave coaches a slap on the wrist for the FBI scandal why not just make these players sit a couple of games instead of being ineligible entire season

LSU Basketball stays cucked by Daddy NCAA. Take a page out of the North Carolina playbook and threaten to sue, then the NCAA will let him play.

They should have communicated to players like Cook and Efton Reid and others that if you transfer you will not be eligible and they could have decided to stay where they were in order to play

They did.

I don't defend the NCAA much, but they were pretty clear BEFORE guys like Cook, Reid, etc decided to transfer that a waiver was unlikely. Those guys chose to risk it anyway.

When has the NCAA ever been lenient when it comes to LSU and eligibility?

This sucks for LSU chances this season and for Cook.

But this was always the most likely outcome and it's better for the sport as a whole (and all sports) for the NCAA to not hand out waivers like candy.

So this is another thing WW messed up? Noted.

I hope Cook gets to play here and has a ton of success, but with the caliber of player Wade was recruiting, I don't know if I blame him for thinking Cook wouldn't get minutes here.

LSU went from contending for the SEC annual NCAAT team to one of the worst squads in program history. It's easy for Cook to be an upgrade to the latter.

That's not true at all.

The NCAA announced in January they were going to limit the 2x transfer waivers. The then published guidelines in March generally discussing the reasons they would or would not grant a waiver. Cook entered the portal in late March. He then announced he was transferring to LSU on April 7th. EVERYONE involved had knowledge of the NCAA's position at that time.

Cook and LSU took a shot anyway. It didn't work out

That's a fair point and I could have worded it better, but a lot of coaches and players thought the NCAA would be lenient on the second time transfer waivers. They have proven not to be.

How strict the NCAA would be did not start revealing itself until August when football transfers started being denied.

That’s what he gets for leaving in the first place.

Officially: It's because the NCAA received "new information" after his original appeal was denied. UNC's argument was that the waiver was warranted for Walker's "mental health wellfare".

Unofficially: It's because Mack Brown got the NC Governor (a UNC grad) and other politicians involved to put pressure on the NCAA.

As a season ticket holder and one of the few people on here who actually gives a shite about basketball, I want to see Cook eligible. But if the NCAA is going to have a rule, then they have to stringently follow the rule. That's how we got here in the first place.

Initially everyone who transferred had to sit out a year. Then grad transfers didn't have to. Then guys like Justin Fields (and many others) started coming up with all kinds of BS reasons why they should be able to transfer without having to sit out a year. The NCAA kept expanding the amount of "hardship" waivers they gave out until it got to the point that just about everyone got a waiver. Then, they just changed the rule to be that anyone could transfer once without sitting out.

People on this board and nationwide pissed and moaned about the transfer portal on a daily basis. It, and NIL, were "ruining college sports!!!"

It sucks for our team, but isn't this what many on here wanted? Some degree of restrictions on what was a complete free market of transfers. If that is not the case, then you kind of lose the right to bitch about the portal and NIL.

I get that this was always going to be the case with Cook. My question is why on earth is there a single transfer rule to even enforce? Why does the NCAA give a shite if a kid transfers 1 or 4 times? Who is that hurting? The answer is nobody. It’s a dumb rule to make the NCAA feel as if they have some power over things.

People can bitch about the NCAA but this is on Cook and LSU. The NCAA issued a memo when the transfer portal opened up that detailed a very restrictive path to approval for 2-time transfers. There wasn't much press on it, but the few articles that were out there said that the interpretation by school officials was that the NCAA probably wouldn't approve 2-time transfer waivers.

When the rule was changed that anyone could transfer without sitting out MANY on here bitched and complained (and still do) because great players on their favorite team were leaving and essentially using the rule, combined with NIL, to leverage their current school/other schools.

The coaches are the ones most in favor of the rule. They want some degree of continuity and certainty. They don't like having to essentially constantly recruit their players to stay. Requiring a 2x transfer to sit out a year would at least give coaches some certainty in that they would know if they took in a transfer he couldn't up and leave the next year (absent certain circumstances).

You can't change your position just because it effects your favorite team. Either you are in favor of no restrictions whatsoever or you are in favor of some restrictions such as this.

Of course they denied it.

He should say he was burdened with racism every day at Tulane to get immediate eligibility like Justin Fields when he transferred to Ohio State.

Look I dont know the rules (no one does anymore) and dont really care.

How bout just quit freaking transferring everytime you get a thought in your heads.

Maybe NO ONE should be allowed to transfer without sitting out a year.....if that was only a rule?
