Finally got around to watching Parasite. Wow...

not what I expected. For whatever reason I've been putting this off for some time but MAX really wanted me to watch this because it was always on my home screen. The basic movie description never made me want to watch it but I watched the trailer and decided to give it a shot.
For almost half the movie I was thinking yea this is more frustrating than good because the family were just terrible people taking advantage of others and semi ruining lives. Fell asleep watching it the first night.
*starting spoilers*
But then then the old housekeeper shows up and it becomes an hour and 15 minutes of stress and madness. When the housekeeper starts trying to push open the hidden basement door/cabinet I was like ok this is interesting. Then the husband is down there and I'm ok this is real interesting. Then the family falls down the stairs and I'm all in.
It was really dumb for the family to follow them down the stairs. Everything probably could have been avoided if they didn't do that but I get wanting to know wth is going on. The scene where the family had to hide under the table almost all night when the rich family is talking about the dad and having a kinky fondling session was pretty jacked up, felt bad for the dad there.
The climax at the party is probably going to stick with me more than any part of a movie in recent memory. As crazy as it was it still felt very realistic. I don't think the dad was justified at all though in killing the husband. Yes you felt sorry for him that he had been made fun of for smelling, but it's not like he fired you and he actually respected you pretty good and that family was the reason your entire family was able to start to live a better life. Madness.
I'm done. Glad I decided to watch it. One of the better movies of the past 5 years or more. Going to watch Memories of a Murder next. Same director and looks to have a True Detective S1 feel to it.

There has been a lot of years lately with very few good to great movies but 2019 was actually pretty strong.

Decision to Leave is another great movie from Korea

They just solved the Memories of a Murder case in 2019.
I wonder if that guy who drop kicks everyone for no reason was part of the true story.

I had quit going to theaters and started back that year. Saw Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, 1917, and Parasite and thought damn this experience is awesome. Then covid and the wokeness came, and I haven't been back since.

Parasite is awesome. Below are two of my favorite Korean films on complete opposite sides of the spectrum from the same director. (he didn’t direct Parasite)
Watch this next:
Also if you want to see the lead from Parasite play a hilarious character check this one out too:

Talking about Korean movies I really enjoyed Train to Busan

Also highly recommend The Wailing and Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum if you’re on a Korean movie kick.

I Saw the Devil is pretty legit
Watched on Prime a couple of weeks ago and very much enjoyed it.

I didn't like I Saw the Devil as much as others, it's good but great IMO. I recommend The Man From Nowhere on prime. Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, Thirst, Decision to Leave, Joint Security Area... Hell, anything by Park Chan-Wook.
Burning, Memories of Murder and Broker are all very good also.

Thanks for the recommendations. Of those I’ve only seen Oldboy, which is fantastic.
Started Memories of a Murder late last night and only got 30 minutes in. I hope the main actor (the dad in from Parasite) gets better. He is a horrible detective. But overall pretty good so far.

My friends hated Parasite when we watched it coming out, but I really really like it.

You've got to check out Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum then. It's scary and original.

Since you didn’t mention it, make sure you see The Handmaiden if you haven’t already.

I've not seen it and partially for this exact reason. IDK if that's done on purpose or Hollywood doesn't do well with foreign concepts or ideas.
I avoided spoilers, as I'll watch eventually, but I know it's been out for longer than a minute, so I'm not too concerned.

Finished Memories of a Murder last night. Pretty good but not on the level of Parasite. Very eerie though which I love. In this thread the guy said the crime was solved in 2019 so I already knew it wouldn't have a conclusive ending but that's still a little disappointing. Hate when the crime isn't solved
One particular part was especially jacked up though. Won't spoil it but the involving the special needs kid
