I know it's Halloween season but I had a craving for westerns....my Dad got me into it. There are so many to list but I feel like one has to be in the top five and that movie is...."The guy who shot Liberty Valance".. You have John Wane and Jimmy Stewart in the same film... you can't ask for more. Tombstone should be up there too. What do you say?

And don’t forget Lee Marvin.

The Searchers
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Tombstone
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
The Outlaw Josey Wales

Ask me tomorrow and the list will change.

In no particular order:

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly;
The Outlaw Josey Wales;
The Searchers;
True Grit; and
Once Upon a Time in the West.

There are dozens more that can crack a top 5 list, but those were the first that came to mind.

Honorable mention: Lonesome Dove. Although technically a tv mini-series, this is hands down one of the best pieces of western cinema ever.

It depends on your taste. Either you tend toward the spaghetti western type or you enjoy deeper plots and better acting. If the former than it’s the John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies.

For me it’s the latter and I’d include these:

True Grit - although the original was very good, the recent version with Jeff Bridges is better
Shane
Lonesome Dove
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
No Country for Old Men

Anything Randolph Scott was in is a pretty good movie.

Of course the man with no name trilogy.

And goes without saying the greatest of all time John Wayne.

I can’t just pick movies and say that’s the best one because in their own way all of the movies those guys made were the best to me.

It’s nice watching Bonanaza reruns if you don’t have time for a movie.

Adam grew up to be Trapper John, MD.
Little Joe became Charles Ingalls.
Hoss died of a massive heart attack at 43 and, as Lorne Greene said upon learning of Dan Blocker’s death, “Well, there goes Bonanaza.”

Enjoy

I know it’s more modern day, but damned if Unforgiven isn’t worthy of mention here.
