Currently been using fire devices for many years now and our main TV has a 4k Max stick. It works well about 80% of the the time, the other 20% of the time it shits itself and freezes up about 20 seconds at a time before finally catching up.

Thought about switching to a Roku 4k+/ultra to give them a try. Any other suggestions I should look at?

I don't use Apple products really, so sort of ignored the apple TV. Need all the latest specs with 4k, HDR, and Dolby vision. Never use voice features.

We use Roku and love it. The interface is really easy to deal with and never have any troubles with it

You using the 4k stick, don't really see much benefits going past that for the 4k+ or ultra

My Roku Ultra was noticeably faster than any of the Roku sticks, and puts the built in Roku on my TCL TV to shame. App launching is way faster and more reliable.

A Fire TV Stick 4k Max is $44. The 4k is $29. You're going to use this thing for more than two years. Don't be pennywise and pound foolish.

I have most Apple products. I really don’t use the Apple TV with my other products. I use it more like a Roku/fire stick. I find apples UI is better than those with the same specs. Never had an issue. They’ve also come down in price to compete with the previously mentioned.

My dad and brothers use fire sticks and when I’m there I see what you are talking about. Very sluggish and freezing. It would drive me crazy.

I'm assuming you are making the comparison to say to get the Roku ultra.

I currently own the fire TV 4k Max stick and its what I'm complaining about. I believe it is the fastest fire TV option

My 2 cents.

I know you're not thinking of the Apple products, and I want to say - good. I recently bought a google chromecast 4k box and it's better than the Apple TV 4k I had.

That being said, I'm not a huge fan of the remote. The Roku Ultra remote is better, IMO. I know it's not a huge deal, but it's something you're going to use all the time.

If I were buying for another TV, I'd probably go with a Roku Ultra.

Roku 4k ultra has an Ethernet port so you don’t have to rely on wifi, also has a 3.5mm jack for headphones on remote which can be convenient.

I believe the FireTV cubes have a lot more horse power, they just have an echo built in. I haven't used one before, but I know it's got a bigger/faster CPU.

Dude, don't tell people this crap. The shield was great, 6 years ago. Not it's finnicky and dogshit slow.

It locks up just turning it on, and getting to the home screen. It is random and does not happen all the time. But it usually is frozen for like 20 seconds before normally working again.

any app will cause this but mostly occurs after waking it back up

I think I know where you are going with this question, but no internet issues whatsoever with any other devices. It is purely the fire stick

Sounds about right. I used to have quite a few fire sticks, and concluded that they are dog shite. Of course, they are cheap in price. Get what you pay for, I guess.

I've used Fire Sticks, Roku Ultra, and Apple TV. The Roku Ultra worked fine, but I hated the UI, and cluttered feel.

I prefer Apple TV and now have four of them. The UI is clean, uncluttered, and I have it set to where my home screen are my apps. It's all nice and neat and no other bloatware garbage to sift through. It's snappy and I've had nary an issue out of any of the four I have.

I even keep one on our covered back patio and it's never had an issue.

Well, you're going to buy the brand you're going to buy. But if the "fastest" isn't working for you, maybe you adjust. I wasn't trying to get you to Roku. It's common for people on Tech to be loose in their definition of what they own or want to buy to be loose.

But, the fastest Fire you can buy doesn't suit you. So, you're waiting on a faster Fire? What are you asking? If Fire sucks, cancel the service, spent $40 on a device, and try it out. You're not buying a Jet Ski. Cancel it if it sucks, and get $15 on eBay.

More than likely you are approaching the storage limits of your Firesticks. No matter what model you have, Fire Cube included, they all suffer from limited storage. The sticks usually have around 15 Gb or less, the cube slightly more. When the device approaches the limit the cache from the other apps becomes a problem. You can force stop the apps and clear the cache, or you can do the simpler solution and add some external storage. For external storage you can use a thumbdrive, or even a sata SSD. I have a 1 Tb SSD on my Fire Cube. All my TV's except 2 are using Firesticks, Cubes or are FireTV's, and I have nary an issue. There are lots of videos on YouTube on how simple it is to add external storage to your FireTV, Cube, or Stick.

I thought that I was asking here?

Is it too much to ask other people what device they are using?

I am not going to go out and buy a Roku/FireTV/AppleTV and try them all out. Seems like a waste of time
