I had no idea this was alleged against Clemson until I read this today about the Michigan sign-stealing stuff:

quote:

When LSU played Clemson in the 2020 College Football Playoff, sources said the staff suspected Clemson of sending people to scout them in the SEC championship game and Peach Bowl. Brent Venables, then Clemson's defensive coordinator, has long been the focal point of sign-stealing speculation, according to multiple sources, though no one has publicly accused him of anything illegal. After LSU's first three offensive drives ended with three punts and one first down, sources said a frustrated coach Ed Orgeron told offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger, "Change it up." Upon changing signals, LSU scored touchdowns on five of its next six drives.

Apparently this was pointed out back in 2020 by Sports Illustrated as well. Do any of y'all remember this being talked about right after the NC?

Looks like it didn't help them much.

This just confirms that even when other top 5 teams had our signals they couldn't do shite to stop the 19' squad.

There were definitely rumors after the 2012 NC game debacle but I think most people just looked at our sideline and saw who the coach was,

Yeah, he made a great Pelini hire without interviewing him. What a great general!

Well they did stop them, until O and Co changed up their signals. Then they didn't know what was coming

I still don't see what is wrong with scouting another team.

I have heard the reasoning that it gives wealthier schools an advantage over other schools who cannot afford scouts.

However wealthier schools already have many other advantages (i.e. recruiting, facilities, staff, fan base, game atmosphere, etc.)

I don’t understand why a team wouldn’t change their signals before every big/conference game.
Leave the signals alone for Army and Grambling but then change them every other game

"with the right assets under him". Didn't say he could find the right assets

Good luck making a compelling argument for sign stealing using that game as your evidence. He literally would have had more success throwing darts at his playbook to decide plays!

Yes should always change signals. Baseball does that all the time

Lots of folks not reading this part…

He's a general if he's all in. If he hadn't gone full retard after winning the 2019 title he'd probably still be doing well here

The man didn't read Art of War. A general is only as good as the officers beneath him.

everybody does that, coaches, if they weren't able to do it themselves, had people scout other teams that we were going to play way back when I was in high school

I remember this so well. Heard that morning that rumor and that Venables does this so often. Our offense did stall a couple times in the first quarter as a result too. We figured em out by the 2nd quarter tho

“Clemson of sending people to scout them in the SEC championship game and Peach Bowl.”

Obviously they frickin suck at their job. Sign stealing and actual play of the team couldn’t keep up with BDJ.

Clemson folded after BDJ crushed those f’ers.
