Agreed. It was not always, but once they built the interstate that northern part of Old Metry became…well, it didn’t become anything, really. It just stopped being Old Metairie.
What's a little strange is that there is a pretty noticeable difference in the houses, etc on the south vs north side of the interstate. On the north side between I-10 and Vets, the houses are smaller and/or not near as well kept up as the south side immediate few blocks.

Friend,
While I appreciate your enthusiasm, I think Bucktown, with its historic roots in both the seafood, music, and political landscape, must remain a separate and independent neighborhood from Old Metairie. We do need to decide if the land between W Esp and Vets is its own neighborhood or belongs to one of these historical neighborhoods.
While considering this, I would be open to extending Old Metairie’s southern border from Airline to the railroad track just south of Airline. I believe historically that these few homes fit better with Old Metairie than Shrewbury or Old Jefferson. As always, if you can provide a good reason why they should not be in Old Metairie I am always open to a good argument.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

Friend,
This is a worthy observation, but one that could also be made comparing the houses on the north side of Metairie Road to the houses on the road’s south side.

When I was a boy in the 60’s the area from vets to West Esplanade was a swamp.
Hardly. Maybe the very early '60s. Lakeside Shoppinng Center was there. We moved into a new house in March of '66 near Avron and Transcontinenal (Green Acres Ct.), which is several miles north of Vets, practically on the lake. My uncle lived in a well developed neighborhood between Vets and W Esplanade years before we moved in.
Swamp? The '50s ptobably. Maybe as late as 1960 or 61. But certainly not for the majority of the '60s.

I agree. Most people these days consider the trailer park off of Canal to be the epicenter.
