I'm only showing up if we ban those new metairie people north of I-10.

quote:I see your point, but there are a few old maps and the Ridge is a geographic reference when we are discussing the neighborhood and its mostly social identity. Since it was not incorporated, there is not really a legal identity. People's opinions changed over time and still do based upon personal interest and experience.
This 1935 map of the Metairie Ridge
These social areas changed drastically between 1926 and 1945 as roads were being added and new construction was taking place which defined many neighborhoods. It changed again with the arrival of I-10. While there were overpasses, these barriers did have an effect on that area.
I generally accept Veterans as the Northern boundary, but know of many who prefer it limited to the I-10. While there is some basis for this thinking in terms of construction, I think they are historically incorrect and also prefer to include some of the businesses along Veterans such as Dorignac's and Fausto's which to my thinking are iconic and integral.
Does anyone really accept any area beyond Airline as part of Old Metairie? I would be interested to see any such discussion.
Eastern is universally fixed at the parish line.
Western is widely varied with people passionately moving that line to many places - Causeway and Severn being the most common. I accept Severn which includes the municipal buildings and Gennaro's because I see them as integral to Metairie - for better or worse. (Hey, the bus drivers parked under the Causeway overpass and had a convenient place to sit and drink after dealing with those kids... ;)
But this is largely personal opinion and while I will state mine, I would not seriously argue with someone over the issue.

The heart of Old Metairie is walking distant to Winston's pub

quote:I actually had to pull over twice thinking that something was wrong with my Harley. Greatly relieved to hear that my ride was not the cause of that burning smell.
I could smell it in Covington last week. Burnt rubber smell now for a week plus. How big is the marsh fire?

Just go to Vincent's, sit down, enjoy some wonderful smell for a while & order the corn and crab bisque in a breadbowl.
Ohhhhhhh man.
