It's not good. Disappointed. Was very lifeless in most of it.

I saw this today.
Very well made, but damn I haven't seen that much misery and bleakness in a movie in a long long time.
The ending with the dance ceremony was a fantastic closing. The death imagery with the owl and the ancestors was moving.

The ancestor scene with Lizzie Q was so good.

Saw this afternoon. Really liked it but would have liked more on the investigation. Almost feels like the investigation could be a separate movie.
Was really long but didn’t drag much. Great acting. Such a shitty story man, I left just feeling bleak. The Osage got fricked over so, so bad.

Could’ve just been an easy case to solve so there isn’t much there, idk

Negative. I haven't seen the movie yet but the investigation was a big and interesting part of the book.

Another big budget flop. Hate to see these type of movies fail but it sounds like Scorsese/DiCaprio really earned this one. Such great source material too. I hate to see these type of movies fail because i usually enjoy them, but we have Oppenheimer to counter it so there is that.

Bump
Saw this and wish I could say that I enjoyed it more. It is well crafted and well acted but (spoilers) I couldn't empathize with the central characters.
Dicaprio and Deniro play obviously reprehensible people. The female lead is more human sort of but never reacted on screen with the rage and grief the circumstances of her story would demand.
With the story being what it was I think I would have enjoyed it more if it centered more from the start around the federal investigators and did some retroactive revelations as the investigation progressed. There's a moral center there that doesn't make you want to blow your brains out.
And I certainly wished they featured more of the anger and grief the tribe should have demonstrated against Leo and his uncle. What the accomplices in the tribe knew and what the mixed children would have gone through are rich but untouched subjects in the film (even though the film had to be around 4 hours long).
As it was it felt emotionally similar to watching Schindler's List. And the rewatchability of that for me is quite low.

Watched today. Have never walked out of a movie but almost did today. Was extremely bored. Expected a lot and it just didn’t deliver. 2/5 for me. Oppenheimer is by far the better movie.

Finally got to watch it.
Great casting and performances, but Scorsese unleashed does not a great movie make. As Orson Welles use to say, "The enemy of art is the absence of limitations." It's as if we got the same number of scenes as a two hour Scorsese film, but they just made them all 60% longer.
De Niro's best performance in a long while. DiCaprio delivers. Gladstone stands out because she's the only lead who isn't asked to chew the scenery (she's great in this). I don't get the pushback on Brendan Fraser's performance. He was cast as a loudmouth attorney and he filled that role pretty well.
I'm no fan of film adaptations turning a mystery into a history lesson, but even that would've worked if Scorsese had kept it shorter. I kept waiting for the FBI to show up (finally, as we reached hour three). The superfast investigation, arrest, and trial, followed by the silly radio show, just negated all of the excitement of the book.
Such a missed opportunity.

To me it was very well done in every possible way except that the work overall, while interesting throughout, never really gets compelling or urgent, just hums along at interesting. Which isn’t bad but feels a little hollow.

Just announced this will finally be available on Apple+ next Friday (Jan. 12).

Idk if I could watch this one at home without falling asleep a few times. Glad I saw it in the theater.

That sums up how I feel. Disappointed.
Just, just now finished it. It was not a particularly good movie. It was not “bad”. But I will never rewatch it, and in no way would I ever recommend it to a friend.
DiCaprio was the only person keeping this movie alive for 80-90% of the 3.5 hours. And from quick searches, he’s not even getting any real awards hype. It’s all going to the Osage Indian wife (who was completely lifeless) and to Robert De Niro (for which this is a decent but completely forgettable performance by his standards).
It was an “ok” movie. But I can’t even say I truly enjoyed it. I just watched Oppenheimer late the night before. It’s apples to oranges, but I enjoyed that movie so way much more.
The performances were good. The move was just ok. I agree the movie picked up when the investigation started. But still it just doesn’t move the needle for me personally whatsoever. I hate to say it, cause I love Scorsese and De Niro and DiCaprio movies… 5/10

On Apple+ today for those interested.

Just watched it last night on Apple TV. Thought it was interesting Leo’s character is portrayed as kind of a dumbass and yes man to Hale but in reality was just an evil son of a bitch. Didn’t realize he wanted his wife and kids to get blown up in real life. I thought the movie was pretty solid, and I never lost interest throughout the whole run time.

I fell asleep
Yeah, I fell asleep the 1st watch about an hour in, my wife fell asleep at the 2+ hour mark when we picked it up night 2, and we finished it night 3. I will never watch that movie again. Could have been great instead of seriously mediocre, glad I didn't see it at a theater.
