Short Zion clip from post practice interviews. If that's all it took, I hope his teammates keep "calling him up, not out.", because high motor Zion is who we all thought we were drafting.

They were right and he looked like he didn't give a frick for 2 games

I'll be the guy. It was nice and he looked great and the steals were nice.

But it shouldn't take this. He's a 5th year (eh) pro making max money. Come out and bust your arse

good thing he likes his teammates. Imagine if he didn't and he simply said frick y'all, i'll do what i want.

as i had said before about the lack of effort, i don't care if it's the preseason. Just b/c you're playing limited minutes doesn't mean you play with a limited effort.

absolutely pathetic that a one-time #1 overall pick & current max player in his 5TH year in the league has to be goaded and shamed into giving a shite on the floor

i'll be the guy...i dont like him.
i appreciate his talent but i cant root for the dude

at the very least, davis gave a shite every single game

No problems with shitting on zion for what’s in the OP, but let’s not lie to ourselves.

Zion's effort seems to rise and fall with his fitness. Christian Clark had an interesting comment on his last podcast. They were talking about how Coach K said you have to let him play to get in/stay in shape. Clark said something along the lines of "Now that Nelson is gone, I wonder if they'll let him do that."

Zion is clearly in the wrong for not being more professional, but if the team starts meeting him in the middle instead of having a battle of wills, hopefully we'll get better results and can put the last 4 years behind us.

davis was a monster (albeit a soft one) until rich paul and lebron got to him

Davis is just really talented. He could be an annual MVP candidate if he had a different mentality. He was a lot like Jrue in that regard, the monster was locked up most of the time.

Is this where we completely overreact to a throwaway quote?

If Zion wasn't a basketball player, he'd be a fantastic baptist preacher with his ability to say things that sound profound by the way he says them, but are largely just empty words.

That's not a knock on him as a basketball player, but it's painfully obvious whenever he does an interview, he's trying to force one-liners.

After everything that happened in the last 10 months, I didn't realize he needed extra motivation from his teammates to play like he did against Orlando. I thought he was coming into the season with a chip on his shoulder? On one hand, its nice to see his teammates telling him what he needs to hear but on the other hand, why is he coasting in the first place? Maybe there's some truth behind him just trying to get to the regular season healthy.

Just from that quote alone I'm in the no Zion zone now. Do what we can. Get what we can.

To a degree. Not sure I necessarily want max effort in preseason. Not sleepwalking either, but I’m ok if he doesn’t want to dive in the stands after a loose ball.

The key part of YOUR quote is “coming into the season”, not the “preseason”. We have yet to enter the season. If he’s sleepwalking when the games count then we have a serious problem.

Zion is going to come out and do Zion things on the court, and these fricking preseason threads will be bumped.

If they played like shite the threads are warranted. Just like praise is warranted when they do.

The tone he sets says “hope you enjoy me being awesome for 35 games”

If they play like shite [during the season], then threads being critical are warranted and understandable. FIFY
