I like the lineup considering we have to accept that Yainer was denied the necessary reps to be a functional part of an October lineup.

I'm not gonna say I like benching Chas, but he's not done himself any favors lately. He's got some hits, but some of his chases have been brutal.
Tough call. Chas is one of the few guys who's actually hit in the playoffs
Yordan .391
Chas .316
Abreu .261
Pena .227
Bregman .217
Altuve .160
Tucker .091
(Hurts to look at that)
I'm actually not envious of having to make that decision. Chas has been the most rudimentary level of adequate which is more than most of our lineup can say. But he's also been absolutely dreadful in critical run scoring situations. He's been just OK in the playoffs but he didn't finish the year strong while Dubon did and Dubon has also hit in the playoffs.
So idk. Chas has the higher potential and you'd like to give him the chance especially as one of the few guys that's gotten us hits. But it's hard to trust him after his last couple games.

Pretty worried about Evan Carter getting on base, he would steal with ease against Javi

I mean the first rule of hitting that you learn when you're a little kid is "make them pitch to you." He straight up did not do that in Game 2. He had 2 big opportunities with 1 on in the 6th and 2 on in the 8th. Not good! If you swing at bad pitches, they're never going to throw you better ones!

Imagine hitting a rookie with 23 games experience into the 3 hole of an ALCS.
Hey man that's like putting a toddler in the driver's seat and saying let's go.

I hate the Stros but feel like y'all are going to rock Max. Should be an entertaining game.

Best case for the Rangers is Max goes 4 innings and they turn to Heaney or Perez to cover the middle innings.
Actually I guess the best case would be our dickless offense does the 10 pitch inning thing while Max sits down about 10 in a row and gets them to the 5th or 6th. Entirely possible.

I’m pretty torn on this.
Don’t necessarily think it’s a risk for the Rags going with Scherzer after a month off because the process to approve it was probably intensive.
But there are a lot of factors. Max effort for 65-70 pitches in an emotionally charged environment. If it blows up they’ll have to go to the bullpen early game 1 of a stretch of three games in three days. Pretty confident Scherzer will be able to handle his emotions and not over do it, just gotta really hope his stuff isn’t as crisp as it can be.
But the last time there was uncertainty around a Scherzer start in the post the reports were he couldn’t move his neck then three days later he goes out and throws 5 good enough innings.
ETA: they also have a nice trio of options to bridge to their later inning guys in Gray, Heaney, and Dunning so that makes it less “risky”

I get your point, but Yainer hasn’t helped himself at all in the postseason opportunities. He’s 0-fer, has looked God awful, and has failed miserably in a few key situations. I still love him as the catcher going forward, but I certainly hoped for more this postseason.

He's started 11 of the last 31 games. Remember at the start if the season when Dusty never played him. He was hitting .226 at the end of May. Then when Yordan got hurt and forced Dustys hand to play him, he got hot and hit .299 into September with a 40+ home run 100+ rbi pace.
It seems we're back where we were at the start of the season where he's not getting consistent at bats and his suffering for it. Remember he was hot out of spring training and then got benched and struggled out of the gate. The evidence we have suggests he's a guy that thrives with playing time and sinks without it. Even at his best, Yainer is going to swing at everything. So it would seem, he needs to have his swing timing down for all the pitches he's going to offer at.
I'm not gonna come at Dusty too hard for the decision to PH Yainer. That's what we all wanted. In hindsight though, Dubon was probably the better call. That's a tough ask to bring a rookie into a a playoff game cold, bases loaded nobody out in a game were losing. I think we've probably seen the last of Yainer pinch hitting though.

It's honestly a damned disappointment how Dusty has botched the situation and its biting us in the arse. We're now in the situation where the entire offense is struggling and we could damn sure benefit from having mid season Yainer in the lineup.
But he's bungled that to the point that Yainer is as ice cold and punchless as anyone and you can't undo it now. We can't let Yainer have at bats like he's had while he tries to regain his form. So Dusty fricked us there.

If he doesn't take the Altuve route and not swing at everything low and away, might be a different story. Told my wife he gonna swing at this pitch low and away. Had it on my bingo card.

Old baw Jim Crane is in the suite next to me.
Might start running my mouth if the situation demands.

Just point down to the field every time the Astros catcher comes up and say “you guys trotted that out there 120+ times a year”
