Blu-rays particularly 4K ones are far superior to any streaming services particularly with sound quality.

Best Buy looks like a radio shack of old. Sad.

Think I bought both my first ever, and last, dvd from there. I’m guessing it was either seven or usual suspects, and the last 4k I purchased was probably Blade Runner 2049. TYFYS

This. Came across Interstellar on 4K at a used store for $9.99. I was curious and streamed the docking scene from Paramount+ and then watched the 4K scene on my PS5.
Night and day difference in sound and the 4K actually filled the entire screen. Paramount+ had black bars on top and bottom of the screen.

Big mistake. People (me being one) still love physical media.
Hell, I still buy vinyl as well as CDs.

Best Buy restructured and did a good job 5 years ago
They are an authorized Apple reseller/repair shop
Also make their nut in cell phones, appliances and TVs.
They will match Amazon, always do no interest for 24 months, and they have a good reward program.

Oh I read this last night without clicking the link and was like "no more DVDs? that makes sense"
But no more Blu Rays as well? That's big

Which is very apparent when you walk into the stores.

Best Buy looked like an electronics flea market with a ATT store slapped in the middle of it last time I went.

I was more upset by Big Lots cutting their DVD section down to nothing. You could buy an entire season of a series for $2.

I probably have a box of 200-300 dvds that for whatever reason I won’t throw out
I had about that same amount and I tossed about 2/3 of them in a move a few years ago. I wish I hadnt. They werent taking up all that much space in the grand scheme of things, and I realize now that physical ownership of something is the way to go.

Pete Davidson, bought up a bunch of VHS.
We are coming up on 20 years since last made(2006). I can't believe I'm saying Pete Davidson is making a smart move. But, he's probably onto something.
I've bought a bunch rarer older ones that are still sealed and had them graded (like grading sports cards). Getting more and more popular and they are starting to sell for big bucks. Goldin and Heritage auctions sell the higher end ones. It'll never be a huge market but it's a serious nostalgia thing. People grow up and get money and want to buy nice things from their younger days.
It people that are holding on to their old opened ones of random movies or think having a sealed copy of Fox and the Hound is worth hundreds that crack me up.
I don't think DVD's will ever have the market except for limited print stuff that is still sealed, and that'll be years from now.
I remember OML saying on here one time that he had thousands of DVDs and all I could think of is how worthless all that is (not that I haven't bought worthless stuff) unless you have a movie that is banned seeing as you can watch pretty much any movie you ever want on streaming for a couple bucks.

you are a big fan of a particular movie or TV series I would definitely get it on DVD
Are you also referring to Blu Ray in this context?

I updated my DVD inventory this morning. 1,711.

Holy smokes man. I know you have streaming services as well, if a movie you want to watch is streaming and you have it on DVD, which do you watch? My post wasn't to knock anyone collecting DVDs btw. My point has always been at this point with so much streaming options, I think it's a better move to spend $15 on Netflix and have 1,000s of shows and movies instead of $15 on one new DVD, or 3, or however many DVDs $15 will get you.

So when Dr Seuss was cancelled, I realized that anything can be cancelled. I’ve always wanted a grand film collection, and now seemed to be the excuse to do it. I want y’all to know anything y’all have on your iPad or Kindle can be revoked by Amazon or Apple, which is why I’ve been advocating for people to buy physical copies of everything they hold dear because they’re going to take a lot of this shite away.
His reasoning makes no sense. Buy a ton of DVDs, watc them, have them in your collection, cool. But to buy physical copies of "everything you hold dear" is just bad advice Cancel culture is the absolute worst. But not THAT much movies and TV that I love has been cancelled.
Hulu removed one or two episodes of Always Sunny. One of them was a really funny episode and it was removed because of black/brown face. Considering the context, it was dumb to remove it. But that is two episodes out of 15 seasons of a pretty offensive show. Does that mean I should go out and buy $100-1,000's of dollars on DVDs to protect the things I love? No. I would watch those episodes maybe once every 5 years at the most. 99.999% of what i love has not bee banned and won't be. Some obscure Dr. Suess being banned does not make me think otherwise.

I'll never understand people being even mildly upset over how other people choose to consume their entertainment content.
