Lived in home 10 years. We have a pond behind house, well we also have cameras in yard. I found tons of leaves under BBQ pit. I went to use pit and damm rat was inside pit. I put cameras on and sure enough damm rat walking around like he owns the place. Is there anything I can do that rats dislike that will keep them away. If not best way to rid yard of this one . Thanks!

Sticky trap
Don't use the rat poison. They will crawl up in your walls and die, then you get to pull walls apart to find them.

A cooler with cold beer, a pellet gun and a comfortable chair will do the trick.

Go get a snap trap and put a little peanut butter in it. Place it facing the wall as they run down the walls when traveling. I've caught several like that around my shed outside.

Clear out any places for them under structures like wood pile .. old decking etc..

Get rid of this one???.. snap trap.. poison blocks… if leaving poison in yard buy the little dog proof / kid proof container you place them in ..
poison in the kid proof container is best option and put it out there .. they eat the poison and it will make them thirsty until the die.. so the look for water.. it is by design to make them leave your house in search of water.. I doubt they will leave you backyard to go into your house wall to die..

You can live trap them with a have a heart trap.. you need to get the smaller version one.. the squirrel size ones has holes big enough them to get out or halfway out which is worse .

I dislike cats, actually allergic as well.

But outdoor cats patrol and kill all vermin.

My wife feeds them and I have no problem with them outdoors. The rats and mice learn to stay away, probably smell the dander. 2-4 times a year they'll be a dead rat at the back door, half eaten.

don't use the sticky strip. You'll catch and kill things other than rats (like pretty little wrens). I've found the poison bait stations work best. I keep one on the patio and usually find dead ones in the yard a few times a year. I've never had one go up in the house to die.

well considering they live in the most vile filthy places you can think of, i dont thing there is anything that will keep them away, you have to remove their food source and shelter.

just be glad they moved into the BBQ instead of in your attic

get a good pellet gun with scope and have fun shooting them. the camera should show you where their travel paths are and what times they come out to play

Live traps work best, Amazon or ace sells them the big box stores don’t usually. Local hardware probably does also.

ETA: I meant they work best on places like a patio with kids and pets around

If it’s outside poison works well, you gotta be careful with poison in your garage and attic type places. I had a family of 6 get into poison I had in a package on the top shelf of my garage and they all died all over my garage floor and shelves. It was like an Easter egg hunt with my fricking nose.

Sticky trap

i have a 90 year old home with pier and beam. no matter what we do and holes we patch up, they find a way.

i've killed probably 2 dozen this year.

put food on there and wait.

Sticky traps work great with kids/ dogs I put an about 2 teaspoons of peanut butter in the middle section and slide it against a wall where they run.

Remember rodents prefer to travel with whiskers along a wall it makes them feel safer. Not always the case by any means, but you will catch more that way.

I use Ramik Green poison pellets. It dehydrates them and they leave trying to find water and die outside the house and not in your walls. Found one dead outside the other day. Good stuff!
