Was in the area for work & stopped by.I dont get to go to many of these things, so i soaked up as much as i could.

I Walked up during BP

BP
-Nippolt back to back Hr RF bleachers. Aggressively hunting pitches.
-Milazzo hit one to end round in 1st row LF
-Milam small but sturdy: HR top of RF bleachers. Just going by Body language but JJ really likes him.
-Braswell looks like a SS. 6’2” lean, high waisted; long legs. Happened to hit a lot of grounders as I watched.
-Kling hit a line drive Hr down line. Looks locked in. Prob best overall rounds of BP
-Pearson hits one halfway up RF bleachers. Then a 2nd one in first few rows.
-Neal taking BP & hitting with wood. Doesn’t look limited
-Ball sounds different off Jared Jones’ bat. Moonshot to RC about 425. Another Line drive HR into LC bleacher. Also hit a Line drive below the pitch clock that would have shattered the thing

SCRIMMAGE

Top 1st Gold vs LHP Herring (91-93, t94)

Kling walks on 3-2. Herring has him picked off, Jones' throw into 2nd was perfect & Milam dropped it. Jay Johnson was displeased

-Frey RBI single through 6-hole 91FB
-Travinski 6-3 FC, Frey was running. 1 out
-Braswell 1 hopper to Kucherak at SS 87CH 2 outs
- Nippolt strike out looking 91FB corner 3 outs

Bottom 1st Purple vs LHP Ack (87-92, t94)

-Bingham K's swinging 92FB 1o
-Pearson K's swinging 85CH 2o
-Jones on a 1-2 pitch hits a ridiculous top spin HR into LC bleachers. 92FB up in zone
-Milam pops up to SS 92FB 3o

I was sitting in front of a scout, and the Jones HR was one of the 2 times he gasped out loud during the scrimmage.

Top 2 Gold vs Herring

The second gasp came when Braswell led off the inning in a situation spot with a runner on 1st already. The runner was stealing, and he chopped a ball over the pitcher and Milam made a slick short pick of the hop, touched the bag and got the double play.

- Mic Paul hit a hard grounder to Milam at 2B & he couldn't make the play. It was a tough play but I would have scored it an E4. 92FB
- Guidry K's looking. Herring carved him up on offspeed. 85CH? maybe? The 2nd strike was a sword, too. Guidry looked rough on offspeed. 1o
-Jake Brown hit a rocket line drive to Roellig arm-side. Roellig reached up and over to snag it 2o.
- Kling lines a HR somewhere into LF. He hit it very hard. And with the glare I could not track it. I didn't hear it hit the bleachers so it must have cleared them. hit a 92FB
-Frey walks the next AB. Herring a little erratic after the HR. Frey steals a base on a ball the ended up in the dirt. Frey is built like a young Mark McGwire.
-Travinski K's swinging to end inning 91FB down and away.

Bot 2nd vs ACK

-Kucherak singles thru 6hole in the situational portion with a runner on 1st 89FB.
-Kucherak inning officially starts with Kucherak K swinging on a 80CB 1o
-Milazzo chops out to Braswell at SS. Doesnt run it out. Wonder if leg is still healing. 2o
- Larson late on a few 92FB, fouling off to left. Then gets frozen on a 80CB. 3o

Larson is one of the few freshmen built like an upperclassman. On another note, Ack got 92 whenever he wanted it. But pitched some hitters in the upper 80s.

Top 3rd vs Bronzini (t90, 83SL?)

-Braswell flies an outside 90FB into RF. Pearson is shallow and has to run back on it and kinda gets turned around. Drops the ball. E9.
-Nippolt walks on a 3-2 count.
-Mic Paul lays down a very nice sac bunt. Roellig at 3B makes a really good running throw to get Paul. 1o
-Guidry looks bad early in AB on offspeed again. But gets a 90FB and shoots a rocket past Roellig, who o'layed it a bit. Ball was hit to Roellig's left and Guidry was stil able to get a 2B. 2 Runs score.
-Jake Brown HBP
-Kling scorches a line drive into LF for an RBI. Pitch was 81CH? was hard to see the shape of the pitches from where i was.

With Brown on 2B, Milazzo threw behind Brown, a rocket 1-hop that Milam scooped and tagged. Ump said safe but i think he was out.

-Frey strikes out swinging on a 88FB up & away.2o

Inning was called after that AB.

Bottom 3rd vs Hellmers (87-89, t91)

-Ruddell hits a 3 hopper over pitcher, Braswell smoothly takes care of him. 1o
- Roellig hits a linedrive 2B over Brown at 1st. Ball gets lost into the bullpen. Loud hit. 90FB
- Bingham HBP
- Pearson K's swinging on outside corner 89FB.
- Jared Jones K'swinging 83SL down and away.

Top of 4th Vs Bronzini

-Travinski K's swinging 89FB up
-Braswell K's looking on 79SL. Neither strike 2 or 3 were strikes imo.
-Nippolt easy 4-3 put out.

Bottom of 4th vs Hellmers

-Milam draws 8-9 pitch walk
-Kucherak swings thru a hit & run, but Milam steals 2B on Travinski anyway. Grounds out to Guidry playing 3B. 1o
-Milazzo rolls a RBI single up the middle 89FB
-Larson pokes a ground ball to Guidry at 3rd. Guidry pats his glove a few times and Larson almost beats it out. 2o
Ruddell- has a patient AB to get to 3-2, and Hellmers K's him swinging on his hardest pitch of the day 91FB. 3o

Top of 5th vs Bronzini

-Mic Paul walks
-Guidry K's looking 78SL
-Jared Jones throws out Paul trying to steal. Great throw. 2o
Jake Brown lines out to Larson in LF, ball slicing away. Nice play. 3o Jake Brown had a few nice swings.

Bottom of 5th vs Hellmers

- Roellig K's swinging, 81SL down & away 1o
- Bingham turns on a 87FB & HR's right inside the LF foul pole.
- Pearson BB on 5 pitches
- Jared Jones K's swinging, 81SL 2o
- Milam hits an infield single to Nippolts right at 2B. Pearson scores from 2nd on a very nice baserunning play.
-Kucherak lines out to CF to end inning 3o.

Top of 6 vs Dylan Thompson (86-88, t89)

-Kling fists 89FB over SS for a bloop single.
-Frey hits a sharp grounder to 3rd. Kucherak smothers it for a nice 5-4-3 DP. Frey runs well, too. 2o
-Travinski walks
-Braswell lines a single into RC. Cooley scores who was running for Travinski & had to to 2nd on a ball in the dirt.
-Nippolt hits a seeing-eye-single up the middle 88FB.
-Mic Paul K's 88FB looking.

New comer observations & other thoughts.

1)Braswell is SS1. He looks comfortable out there. Guidry was playing 2B/3B with him on the same team. The freshmen do not look like challengers.

2)Kucherak made 2 nice plays at SS with the ball hit right to him. He definitely has good hands(made another good play at 3b). I don't think he has SS feet tho. He is a little light in the arse but he looks like a gamer.

3)Roellig is also light in the arse. But showed good mobility and technique fielding bunts at 3B.

4) Milam was jekyl and hyde. Made two really bad errors, but also a few really nice plays. To me, it looked like he thought he was still in HS and took the speed of the game for granted. I do think come FEB he will be locked in.

5)Dylan Thompson reminded me of a Guidry a bit. Didn't quite have the MPH on his fastball, but he has a very athletic delivery and some nice arm action. Has a sharp slider. He made a great play off the mound on a bunt, too.

6) Brown & Larson are built different then the other position player Freshmen.

7)Javen Coleman looks to have put on a few good pounds.

8)Justin Loer is built like a tank. Saw him walk across the field.

9)Overall this is one of the biggest LSU teams I can remember

10)I want to see more but just putting some of the pieces together, this will not be one of those off-years. They will challenge.

So, we may have some action on the bases this season? Or, is this just a decoy?

Also, sounds like Guidry is going to have plenty of competition for an infield spot. Competition is great.

Team is deep. Real deep. Depth may be young but it's uber talented.

Felt more situational but who knows. I think they will be slightly more athletic this season but not by a ton

Christian Little & Moffet are both huge though.

Tanks watched BP behind the cage in a pullover

I didn’t know Jake Brown could hit. I thought he was mostly being looked at as a pitcher.

They are starting Brown out as a 2 way player. He played some 1B today.

He hit two balls on the nose for outs(both opposite field) & was HBP.

He looks like a strong, well-built kid.

Jared Jones K's swinging, 81SL 2o

is there a way to throw 100000 sliders down and away at Jones till he figures out what they look like?

i’m not middle school baseball good, but I feel like strap that dude into a VR headset and just let him look at low and away breaking balls all day and night.

Thanks for the breakdown LE.

CJJ has said they were gonna try Brown as a 2 way player because of his bat. Good to know he looks the part and fill a position as well as throw.

I just can’t see a scenario where guidry starts. I’m just not sure the bat is there yet but I hope I’m wrong
