My unpopular opinion of the day:

While I don't agree with what he did, it's discouraging to see his entire career overlooked by this one incident. I'm not familiar with the situation at Walker High enough to know if there have been other issues in them past, but it's not like he suggested sexual things to this girl. The moms desire for attention and drama played a small role in this also.

Without the national "attention and drama", this a-hole likely never reverses course. If my kid had accolades and scholarships that they had earned pulled by this self important jackass, I would absolutely be calling for his job.

Just a guess, but I bet this wasn’t an isolated incident.

Mom went to the mattresses because this guy wanted to be a petty tyrant. Now she will win enough in a lawsuit to make that scholarship look like chump change. Great mom.

As others have mentioned, he actually did do alot of innovative things and was overall pretty well respected. That being said, the behavior here is logic defying for an almost 20 year principal and almost implies there's something missing from the story. Almost anyone looking at this from the outside instantly sees how bad of a decision this was. Was it just an unexplainable case of poor judgement that simply snowballed out of control? Did he somehow allow the academic coach with the rival daughter to talk him into this? Or, and maybe most concerning, was he just so comfortable treating kids like this without backlash over the years that he never envisioned a scenario where this would come back to bite him?

Without the sexual overtones of “twerking” this never even becomes a story. The internet ran with it because they saw “twerking video” in the headline and it was a blonde girl.
