re: Our 2nd amendment right is the biggest reason this doesn't happen in the US.

With your views of why even try; glad you’re not my neighbor.

House to house slaughtering people knumbnuts. House to house raping people knumbnuts. House to house kidnapping people knumbnuts. What an idiot.

Did you ever bother to look into who mass shooters go after? Soft targets. They don’t go where there’s a chance they’ll get shot at. This is the same exact mentality.

No, this attack is not the same thing as a lone loser shooting up an elementary school. Not at all. Not in motivation, not in tactics, in scale, or really in any way beyond the obvious targeting of civilians.

Unarmed civilians. That’s the point

Maybe that’s your point. It’s not mine.
Scale, speed, purpose, and timing were the determining factors. This was not the same thing as any act of terrorism that has occurred on US soil in a very long time—if ever. The Pancho Villa raids into New Mexico or some of the Apache raids are probably our best corollary.
You could sleep with your weapon literally in your hand. Numbers still matter. Being overrun is being overrun. The Israeli border communities were surprised and overrun. They killed more terrorists than the terrorists killed Israelis. They did generally fight back. Well. They were still overrun.

You may die trying to defend your home or your neighborhood but if you take some of them first it will buy time for others to respond to the threat. If you make it to the first mag change you’re winning.
You didn’t say it in words and still said it anyway.

Nah. My point is that the second amendment is not in any way why terrorists don’t try this here.
This doesn’t happen here and hasn’t happened here yet because no organization has the planning and resources to do it here without being thwarted beforehand.
The people that pulled this off aren’t scared of armed civilians. They attacked IDF installations directly.
It’s the bizarre Rambo 2A chest thumping that I’m arguing against. The 2A has no real relevance here.

You say that. Several Israeli villages fought off terrorists and kills scores of them for 8-10 hours before the IDF came to the rescue.
This type of concentrated infiltration into civilian residential areas is a serious weakness for almost any society regardless of how armed it is.

quote:the 2A was to allow states to keep militias to protect themselves from each other and to ward off Natives, French, Canadians, Spaniards, etc, all of which were very close and immediate threats. And there wasn't a strong federally controlled military at the time.
2nd amendment was to keep the government afraid of the people

Most homicides occur in areas where there's going to high levels of gang crime and I wouldn't call gang members 'soft' targets compared with a general population.

All those examples happened because there WAS an invasion.
America's geography and military strength is the biggest reason you don't see an occupation.
It would be suicide as America's navy is the largest in the world, there's a desert on one side of the land border and the other side is bordered to an allied state.
By the time a land invasion made it across, they'd be dead.
Posted on 10/11/23 at 3:49 pm to WaltWhite504
No, frickwad, it would mean that if the invaders from the South came armed to folks doorsteps like they did in Israel, they would become DEAD illegal aliens.

Tons of terrorists were killed by civilians and reservists in those communities.
Posted on 10/11/23 at 3:57 pm to RustyDaDog
I’ve got nothing citing who shot who. Only the Israeli government saying 1500+ terrorists were killed in Israel, along with various reports that the situation went on for many hours before troops showed up in these places.
The uncensored videos and photos show lots of Hamas bodies in the streets of the farms and kibbutz communities.
Very obvious to me that at least some portion of the population fought back, and did so admirably. Plus as I’ll say again, these ag communities in Israel have reservists in their ranks that are first up for situations like this.

Does one have to be Rambo to start taking pot shots at a couple of dozen people out of the window of one's home, when it becomes evident that those folks appear to be trying to "take over" over a neighborhood? Do you think they might not have re-thunk their course of action if they determined the odds to be about 100% on average that every house will have at least one gun for which someone could do so as soon as the homeowners realized what was going down, versus 6%? They can't "take over" every house at once, can they?
Your super definitive takes can be mighty bizarre sometimes.
