Israeli citizens aren’t allowed to own firearms?

Israeli law allows citizens to carry weapons under certain conditions, such as requiring one for work or living in an area of the country that faces heightened security risks. People who are eligible can own a single gun and 50 bullets
This is googles response to my query. Seems like of all countries Israel should encourage if not give out weaponry to all citizens who wish to own them. A lot of this could have been avoided. Especially considering all citizens serve in the military in some way shape or form. You would think this includes firearms training. “Every man a rifleman”. “Better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war”. Long live 2A

Firearm ownership runs afoul of their perpetual victimhood doctrine.

I have seen tons of citizens openly carrying uzis and other sub-machine guns just out and about. I saw it first hand in multiple cities. They weren’t active duty military (I asked) and they we sweet weapons.

I was under the impression everyone in Israel was armed. I went there once while in the military. Lot of uniformed personnel with arms, and our tour bus driver was armed, along with others I saw.
It was weird watching Hamas drive around in pickups just firing at people, while others got video from an apartment balcony. They should have been raining bullets down on them. In most areas of the US, Hamas would have faced withering gun fire in that situation.

Generally, Israelis are allowed to own weapons if they were in combat arms in the IDF if they apply for a license.
Since active IDF members often take public transport from their homes to their duty stations, with their weapons, one could easily get the impression that there are 2-3 M4s on every public bus, but that's not gen pop.
There is an effort afoot to relax licensing requirements. Given where it is, and how many ramming incidents there are, I'd want everyone, everyone, to have a rifle on them. Getting a massage? I expect a rifle in the corner.
