Will they except his change of insurance to other state if he can show no lapse in coverage (and required amounts)?

I bought a classic car. It was basically a frame and engine that I bought from a guy for cash but it had a title. Swapped the title and had the frame / engine in a garage for two years rebuilding it into an actual vehicle. Went down to OMV to register and they made me pay around $1,000 for not having a plate or insurance on the fricking frame while it was in my shop for two years.

I eventually just paid it to get a plate so I could sell the rebuilt car.. Assholes.

No plate...no insurance.

They kept saying I was required to get a plate within a certain number of days of transferring the title. I kept saying "it wasn't even a complete car. There was nothing to drive." They didn't care. There was literally nowhere to hang a plate.

Had a friend who testified in front of the heads of OMV at the capitol earlier this year. He moved to Ms. and he was dropped by Allstate because he changed his address from La. to Ms. When he went to change the address, Allstate said they couldn't cover him because of the change. So he goes to Ms. and gets coverage from the same Co., but in Ms. instead. He's single and both of his kids live in La. So he is back and forth and stays in La. more than Ms. He buys another vehicle in La. and when he goes to register it, the OMV tells him he has a red flag because he changed his address from La. to Ms., and wasn't covered. He begs to differ and walks out to his old truck and produces proof of Ins. and it never lapsed, so he had Ins. yet La. flagged him. He testifies and one of the heads at OMV says call her and they will straighten it out and refund the over 600.00 he had to pay to remove the red flag, not counting the normal fee for registration. Called em and he sent them proof of Ins the whole time and has yet to get any response for over 6 mo. What the state doesn't do is inform anyone who had ins in La. that when they leave, they stop their ins. account in La. and are then subject to being flagged for no ins, but yet he did. La. does not share information with other states. Hence the rip off.

LA OMV picked up that I dropped insurance with State Farm but I guess didn't get notification that I was picked up prior to that by Safeco. After all this, got vehicle registration swapped to new state

I would push no lapse in coverage and if insurance swap first wouldn’t you have had to input your Louisiana plates? Maybe insurance can help. If they sent something maybe a copy of that or resend to Louisiana (not just proof of current coverage but proof it was sent to them with insurance switch over showing no lapse in coverage). I don’t know if it met Louisiana’s minimum, but You had coverage.

They sent me something like 13 years after I traded in car on something else when I moved out of Louisiana. Dealer was supposed to process along with registration of new car, but I guess it didn’t take. Voter registration change didn’t take as well, and I found later I was still registered to vote in Louisiana 2 presidential election cycles while also registered in new state.

I got as much documentation on switch and move out of state as I could 13 years later including old plate number as dealer went out of business 5 or 6 years prior & I could not find ownership transfer with the trade in & had to input old address & name even though that didn’t exist. I used the website a couple of people have posted. I think I tried calling, but I was told to use website first. It eventually worked out, but it may have been more due to being 13 years after the fact.

This is how they are paying for that huge pay raise that LSP got a couple of years ago

Suck it up and pay. Got stuck with it years ago… had cancellation letter that came in over Christmas holidays and I did not see it until three days after it canceled. Bought insurance that day, but the three day gap was inexcusable and cost me 1000 bucks.

Sounds like ODR has it now....have you tried contacting them directly? Not saying they are going to do anything about it but you never know ..

I’m a mild mannered law abiding citizen who follows the rules. So when the government that makes the rules blows them off at my expense, it burns me up.

How have some of you who were so fricked over not become terrorists? This is the kind of shite that would make me go postal. I would get my money’s worth out of them.

Did one policy end on say, October 1 and the new policy begin October 2?

Because if so, you did have a 1 day lapse. Expirations and cancellations are almost always effective as of 12:01am on the expiration/cancellation date. If the old policy cancelled on October 1, the new policy needs to begin on October 1 for there to be no lapse

Damn son. You’d murder people over this? That’s a little psychotic.
