Oh Im sure, just comical to me that teachers/admins/etc bitch about pay but get enough sick/vacation time to bank that they can take off a year. Thats a different discussion though.

All I know is that this guy's principal days are over. I don't know how he's going to frame it but he's done-zo.

The principal admitted to giving her some Proverb scripture about being valuable in Gods eyes. Oh noz.

It’s cool at least that the principal was an Lutcher born n raised Christian rather than say a Muslim from the terrorist riddled middle east who moved here and became a principal at the local public high school when he called for a meeting with the student at the school to preach to her.

I've never been one to gripe about what i make. I knew what i got myself into. However, I'd gladly give up a majority of my leave for higher pay.

How was he granted permission to use up his sick days? Is Livingston Parish now going to offer this option to all employees who are near retirement and have accumulated enough sick days to take off an entire year?

It depends on how the contract is worded. I know in our district admin can't deny sick leave. They can deny personal leave but not sick. If they weren't going to fire without an investigation this was probably the easiest way to quiet the problem down until a more permanent resolution was found.

You can do that in the state of Georgia. You have to have a minimum number of days saved up to use them though.

I wouldn’t be so sure. Sick days are not discipline. The Livingston Parish School Board in not addressing the matter is essentially condoning his behavior. The Parish already showed in a recent tax election that they want changes at the top. They drew the purse strings closed. If I recall correctly, LPS has dropped out of the top ten school systems in the state.

One of the reasons is that the pay is not competitive with adjacent districts. The younger and/or more enthusiatic teachers are leaving to work down the road in another parish. What remains are the old teachers waiting out their retirement and just showing up and the younger teachers who don't give a crap or can't get a job in another parish.

Only 10 per year so you should applaud those who accumulate so much- it means they show up at work every day.

A teacher at my hs "retired" a year early from all the sick days he accumulated. I think it's district/contract dependent.

ETA: this was ten or so years ago in St. Mary Parish

They 100% have been doing it for years. Family member retired from the school board about 15 years ago and had like 3 or 4 months of sick days built up.

My first year on my current job, i didn’t take a single day off. The beginning of the next year i looked and it was all gone except for like 3 days of it. I’m sure it was in a handbook somewhere that they do that but they didn’t advertise that. Now, i take off random days and drain it all every year. Fkn bull shite to not carry it over.
