Not really. He’s just inferring that Kelly blamed the loss and performance on them, which he didn’t.

BK keeps trying to use the inexperience as an excuse even though the majority of the defense is pretty experienced and some of the inexperienced guys he’s not giving playing time to. He then directly compared the current players to players from last year and implied that they aren’t as good.

BK is finding excuses for his failures as a coach and leader of the team.

Serious question - do you think there is anything Kelly could have said today that you would have viewed as positive?

Here’s the way I see it:
- If he simply says “we need to coach better,” the reaction is “he doesn’t have any answers!” See Ed Orgeron’s press conferences circa 2020-2021.
- If he talks about players needing to execute better, he’s throwing them under the bus.
- If he talks about some specific thing they’re going to do to fix the problem it’s “why didn’t you do that BEFORE giving up 700 yards?”
- If he says Matt House sucks, he’s the guy who hired him. Also all hell would break loose because that kind of finger pointing among the coaching staff mid-season only happens at the most dysfunctional programs.
- If he says “we need to put some new bodies out there” it’s “WHY DIDN’T YOU ALREADY DO THAT?”

There is absolutely nothing Brian Kelly, or any other LSU coach, can say to appease the fan base after giving up 700+ yards. Whatever he says will be scrutinized, no matter what.

I’m not saying fans shouldn’t be mad about the defensive performance. They should be. I certainly am. I just think all of the hand-wringing over the press conference itself is a little silly.

I guess Ryan Clark will have a say as well
Hire some former players and watch how bad it gets

ETA: I get that O stopped grinding after the Natty. But dialed-in O > Kelly
.

You’re a fricking idiot

O hasn’t won shite as a coach without Burrow, he’s a career loser. Kelly has built multiple programs from the ground up. Say what you want about Kelly but he’s a far better football coach than O and it is not remotely close. Idiot

Again, trying to rationalize it. We don’t have a true DL coach which obviously hurts. I’d like to get more of a 4 down line anyway, not a fan of basically playing 3 DTs on the line. A lot of jokes have been made about Pete coming back. Guy knows DL talent, he will let them know quick who needs to play.

Inasmuch as he has the experience to speak to the player-coach relationship, he makes a great point so far as I am concerned. You will not win recruits by throwing your players under the bus...ever. Kelly could do with a tad more forthrightness in his relationship with the public when it comes to game analysis without blaming the players. They are his players. He needs, where appropriate, go to bat for them.

You don’t have to be a DL coach to know that in a game where Ole Miss threw the ball 39 times and you got zero sacks and was converting 3rd and longs at will, Womack needs more than zero snaps.

Actually, BK have the defense an excuse for their performance. He blamed it on youth and on inexperience. He gave them a pass.

So basically when he was asked about coverage busts he should have said “there weren’t any busts, we designed the defense to not have a DB within 30 yards of a receiver in the red zone”?

It’s mad impressive tRant can psychoanalyze BK’s relationship with his athletes from a comment at a Monday afternoon press conference

Kelly has 3 times as many rings as a HC than O does.

if O was even a fraction of the HC some here make him out to be, SOMEBODY would have hired him by now.

What a load of crap. He went out and personally got Burrow, hired Brady and paired him with Ensminger. Why so many of y’all refuse to give him credit for putting the right people in the right places is beyond me.

Well, I will address your asinine example.

He acknowledges such to be followed by something to the effect of we need to do better to ensure that each player knows his responsibility on every play. Even if the players are too slow to learn it, one never admits of such. Rather, a good coach finds out quickly what his players can and cannot do. It seems that BK is weak in this area despite his years of experience. If there are so many "busts" there is a coaching disconnect somewhere.
