You need union workers to win swing state and it’s clear many of these companies leaders are greedy and workers should be protected. In the past unions have been loyal to Dems. However if they were apolitical do you believe in their benefit to workers or do you see them as scams?

I think that in most cases these days, they're unnecessary. They served their purpose at one time, but there are too many labor and OSHA laws on the books these days for them to have much purpose other than extorting employers on behalf of their members and leadership.

They don't ever stay apolitical.

I don't believe in banning private-sector unions but I don't believe in giving them any special favors.

Unions of public employees absolutely 100% should be illegal. And yes, that should include teachers, cops, and firefighters.

Unions actually created the American middle class. They are the only dependable power available to workers.

I hate them. They have done more to destroy the middle class and the American dream than any other institution. Their low IQ, short sided members have no idea the damage their unions do to their own self interests.

If I was in charge, I would outlaw them, especially public sector unions.

And most of em are lazy as hell and will run and tell on you as soon as you try to make them do something that's not their "job"

Public sector unions are completely pointless and a detriment to society and governance.

Private sector? I don’t care what they do.

FIFY

Thank unions for globalization, regulation, NAFTA, outsourcing, destruction of the education system, etcm

My experience in construction with union contractors is they are completely worthless, self entitled, and lazy. I can't stand working around them.

Problem is, the rest of us are paying for shite private sector unions negotiate for, and not just in higher prices.

Just one example:
quote:

The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) protects the retirement incomes of over 33 million American workers in private sector defined benefit pension plans. A defined benefit plan provides a specified monthly benefit at retirement, often based on a combination of salary and years of service. PBGC was created by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 to encourage the continuation and maintenance of private sector defined benefit pension plans, provide timely and uninterrupted payment of pension benefits, and keep pension insurance premiums at a minimum.

I believe you are completely backward on the effects of Union
membership. I don’t always agree with their stance in certain situations. On balance, though,
they enable their members to maintain their economic security.

I'm normally not impressed with unions but the orchestration they did with the current strike is pretty fricking brilliant. I know a lot of losers are going to groan at the idea of workers having wages that keep up with inflation but the timing is perfect and they've done it so that it effects midsized trucks produced by three manufacturers so that it's easier to swallow and still gives them a lot more bargaining chips.

The people are thirsty for populism whether its Democrat or Republican. This is Trump's wheelhouse.

A lot of union workers voted for Trump. But their union dues still went to the Dems.

Unions have played their part in the early 1900’s but since then it’s been a noose around union members and the other citizens of the country. It’s a way for officials of unions to enrich themselves but causes higher costs on items therefore end users. It also allows democrats to control the members

Unions are good and bad. Our union is pretty weak due to the laws in Louisiana. They are only good for fight to get your job back if you're fired, safe working conditions and our raises.

I don't understand how government unions like teachers and police departments are so strong here. By law they can fire you for any good reason. We don't get the same backing from being in a national union like the USW union.
