To confirm, you think the government should control prices of every day items, correct? If not, tell us who should control the prices we pay for these items?
Well, first of all, do you agree the government played a role in these high prices? I’ll grant you that Trump played a part with those fat stimulus checks.
I agree, though, that it doesn’t make much sense to bitch about the price of everything while you are still eating out.
My grandparents did not go out to eat multiple times per week.
Now I don’t either. I don’t feel deprived.
I do feel sorry for the mom and pop restaurants feeling the pain, as well as the employees at chains.

I hate it for local owned places. I hate it for folks who can't afford shite. I want stuff to be cheaper for myself. But how do you force a corporation to lower prices if those higher prices are generating more revenue and more profit? That's kind of their job, to do exactly that.

$6.16 premium unleaded in Sacramento. Prices are crazy.

Competition should take care of pricing.
Are corporate profits so high (compared to before this kind of inflation) currently that you don’t believe the higher prices are due to higher costs the corporations are facing?

But it all comes back to your first point, the competition and consumers will take are of pricing. If prices never come down like some are saying, then that would suggest current prices are set right where they "should be" if you will.

Yea I don't understand that argument. So all these corporations are working together to keep prices high. Not one will go against the grain and lower their prices to get more customers. Not one.
Of course this theory is pushed by oweo so I know it's guaranteed to not be right.

If these raised prices weren't increasing their bottom line, they wouldn't be doing it.
If it is increasing their bottom line, then the argument would be why should they NOT do it?
Obviously not talking about outliers like electric companies and monopolies, but we're mostly talking about restaurants and food prices, where there are cheaper replacement options.

Do you really think Biden invented inflation?
He didn’t invent it, but endlessly printing money devalues the dollar. And he’s responsible for lots of spending with no stop in sight.
Plus, his insistence on shutting down the fossil fuel industry is wrecking the economy.

Can you explain exactly what people are voting for right now to cause the prices of everything to be through the roof. Let's start with the hardware store and food since these are the two topics at hand
My last post was a generalization. If we're talking specifically about the cost of goods, clearly the market price gouged during Covid to hedge its solvency. After most of the normalcy returned, that same market saw no decrease in demand (increases in many instances) while keeping prices inflated. You can thank Trump checks and Biden bucks for that. There is no intervention that will fix greed. We're stuck with these prices.

Wanna take a guess how much money was printed in the administration before his? You won't like it.

good portion of it is the massive COVID spending coming home to roost.
Trump shouldn’t have signed the democrat led congress Covid spending, he wouldn’t have stood a chance in the election but still. Truth is, no businesses should have been shutdown, if there wasn’t, we wouldn’t have needed all the Covid money, or at least much much less. You can care about people and not intentionally shutdown damn near every small business across the country while leaving the big huge box stores wide open and letting them rake ALL the money in.

Get used to it, prices will never go back down. Post Covid inflation is real. Companies jacked up prices for everything during covid and are never going back to what they were.
I am not an economy expert but I know most on here believe in a free market. What is the solution to this? People need food and gas and electricity so its not like we can boycott. And having the government step in and regulate prices isn't all that far from socialism.

Like what? Obviously you don't have to eat at restaurants but we do have to go to the grocery store. Should we all start farming in our backyards?

Well, that's definitely a POV. Reality is Trump advocated for more spending and additional stimulus. Mitch McConnell was the road block to his agenda.
