Nike Closes Portland Store Due to Safety Issues

Nike will permanently close its community store in Northeast Portland, a neighborhood staple for nearly 40 years, after previous requests for increased security were denied by the city's mayor.
quote:
The Soul District Business Association said the closure "dealt a major economic blow" to the community, according to a news release obtained by OregonLive. The Association's executive director, John Washington, said Nike told him early Friday that the store would be permanently closed over safety and security issues, according to the outlet.
“Word about the store closing landed like a lead balloon,” Washington said. “Why close down a flagship store that has supported Black Portland for over 40 years? It was an economic driver in this area, and we should be looking at the long-term impact of that closure.”
Earlier this year, the company sent a letter asking Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler to provide off-duty police officers to work security at its store. Nike added that it would cover the cost of the additional officers needed, according to OregonLive, but the Mayor's office denied the request.
Wheeler told OregonLive Friday that he was "very disappointed" with the closure and that his team had worked "tirelessly and in good faith with Nike for almost a year to offer creative solutions to their safety challenges." The mayor added that the city cannot offer any private business with "dedicated" off-duty police officers due to a staffing shortage.

How stupid are the people of Portland to re-elect this clown. Member when he was busy hiding during the riots and then thought he would ingratiate himself among the rioters?

The same creative solutions that’s turning the west coast’s cities into hellscapes?
I bet these “creative solutions” required some kind of “investment” for Nike.
But in this case.. screw Nike too. They advocated for this as well.

He really had a great opportunity to be a leader.
Instead he cucked out and his city is losing millions by the day because of his inaction.
F him with a pipe.

I’ve been to Portland within the past 5 years. I can’t help but think how awesome that town used to be in the 60s-80s.

So are Portland PD officers no longer allowed to do details?
I get they are short staffed, like every other major urban department. Maybe we need to ask ourselves, why is that?

Probably because we’re paying $50k - 60k for folks to police a growing segment of the country that doesn’t want to adhere to western civilization’s tenets?
