Deer deterrent whistle for vehicle, is this snake oil?

Recently moved to Redneck, MS with deer in stupid amounts on the side of the road and running in front of your vehicle.
I'm a good Catholic form SE LA (basically the swamp). We do not have this issue back home.
The GF is telling me to get a deer whistle for the truck. This all seems BS.
Is it just snake oil or do they work?

I don't believe I've seen any study showing they are effective.
But for what they cost you may get some placebo benefit that makes you feel better.

I had one in the mid 90s.... And lived in sw ms.
I believed I saw less deer and none came across my path.
Seemed like I saw more prior to the whistle.

Are people really such assholes that they will put something like this that disturbs all the wildlife even if they don't know if it works or not "just cause"

I think I've ever had issues with deer in a turbo car and this whistle mimics that noise.

As a teenager I grew up in a rural area and hit about 4 deer in my car but narrowly missed probably 30. My dad put these on my car and I never hit a deer again. Could just be luck, I don't know. What I noticed after they were installed is that rather than running away a lot of the deer would just stand there and freeze, looking confused as I drove by.
