I think my wife may have it, her response:

"Looks like someone polished a Russian kidney stone after they drank polonium tea."

Where are you? It looks like chrysoprase or chrysocolla.

Winner winner chicken dinner. The ones you linked are WAY too dark green but they are dyed so I found ones dyed a similar shade and my actual "rock" looks closer to that shade IRL.

Your link

Going to have to break it open to see a fresh surface in order to correctly identify. Most likely a chert of some kind.

First thing you learn in geology 101… you never identify a rock from a picture…
My 101 prof tore us a new one when he held up a picture in class and asked us what it was..

Gotta touch it.. smell it.. taste it and get some grit in your teeth… btw he was a jerk.

I sucked at geology but somehow made part of a career out of it …

I went through EOAC (Engineer Officer Advanced Course) with an engineer who graduated from the Colorado School of Mines (he was some sort of soils guy) and when we were in the field he was forever smelling, and tasting rocks and dirt.

I actually took Geology 101 back in the day and all I remember is the prof beating the concept of dynamic equilibrium into our brains.

Maybe it fell off Jack Russell’s belt. Do you remember having a concert in your backyard?

No, and it is "soft". I started with quartz but was able to scratch it even with soft lava rock so I am guessing the Mohs is under 4.

My wife just got back from walking the dogs again, she said the pup went straight to a small pile of 5 more of the stones and brought another one back. Pretty clear a kid from the neighborhood left them there, probably bought them in a museum shop or something similar.

True story. I met this cute girl at a restaurant I used to work at several years ago. She gave me her number, and I hit her up a few days later. I tried for like 3 days to get to know this chick before I gave up. She was rock obsessed. Apparently had no other hobbies or interests. She even named her cat and other pets after rocks. I quickly came to the conclusion that feigning interest in and talking rocks was not for me.
