several big boys helped jv.
usa lost the rebounds by 15+. a lot of putbacks.
also the Lithuanian team worked over Reaves inside.

I get he’s a Laker, but that’s not true at all.
He proved his merit in the playoffs last season. He’s a very good player. Just because he can’t guard giant guys in the post during Fiba, doesn’t mean that he is an overhyped bum. Dude literally was an udfa and grinded his way to being a very good player by year 2 of his career. I don’t care what team you play for, if you do that, you’ve got my respect.
J Val is also a very good player, that doesn’t get enough respect around here. The only reason why his deficiencies are even a problem, is because Zion only suits up 25% of the time and Ingram only plays about 60-65% of the time. Yet, the fanbase would rather use J Val (making a bargain $15M a year) as a scapegoat than our young stars.

Do people or fans not like Val?
I've never thought that was the case. He seems universally liked. He just has holes in his game, like everybody else, and we can possibly upgrade. I'm not in a hurry to throw him a huge extension. Are you?

I feel like J Val gets a ton of heat on this board overall for what he gets paid and the production/value he provides.
I doubt he would command a huge extension. Probably would just take 2yr 30mil again. You can definitely debate whether or not we’d want to do that or pursue a better fit.
I just don’t think he gets enough respect or love here overall. Dude plays damn near every game. He openly likes/loves the franchise and New Orleans. In terms of problems on the court or within the franchise in general, I don’t think Val is in the top 10 of issues, even if he’s a bit slow footed defending ISO’s and pick and rolls.

Have no problem with Val as a person. He just has massive holes in his game. Pels obviously feel they have a better shot at winning a game with Nance, Jr in at crunch time instead of Val. Start with that point of view...and it's fairly easy to see why Val probably won't be around much longer.

It was not JV huting the US.
An average shooting team hitting their first 9 3 pointers is what hurt.
I hope the US plays them again in the finals.

Italy is next.
hit 40% of threes in upset wins ousting Spain and France from winners bracket.
Lithuania is not my hope for usa finals victim.
they are bigger up front and dare i say well coached. if you saw the loss there were two things that stood out. they planned on taking guys down low (like they did to reaves) and a couple of them know how to shoot.
a couple of these euro squads have played together before and unlike usa they know who has to do what and they know they can do it.
and fwiw halliburton is the real deal.

Val is extremely likeable. He has some limitations, but he literally has won games for us.
