Apple reportedly has plans to buy ESPN and get rights to NBA, NFL, MLB, and more

According to Fortune, the prediction is that considering inflation and ESPN's current value, Apple should offer between $50 and $60 billion for the network. If we go to a regular inflation calculator, Disney paid $38 billion for the company. If they were offered $50 billion, they would still make a massive profit from it. Currently, Disney is not going through a great moment with the writers and actors' strike. They could definitely use much of that money to reach a settlement and get that massive weight off their shoulders. ESPN as a company has been suffering layoffs for years and Apple has the infrastructure to prevent this. In the case Apple made an offer, should Disney consider it?

Experts believe Apple could be considering purchasing ESPN ??
“Apple would get rights to the NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLB, NHL, UFC, the PGA Tour, tennis Grand Slams, Formula 1, and college football’s Big 12 and SEC Conferences — plus ESPN’s first two Super Bowls after the 2026 and 2030 seasons.”

AppleTV giving you access to ESPN will neuter cable companies

Amazon should buy ESPN. The cost of Prime will go up. I can deal with that.

I'd love for the SEC to have something similar to their MLS streaming package

Maybe - or it will make it easier to offer low cost, no-ESPN packages and bring in subscribers who don't watch sports.

You think ESPN is woke under Disney...

If you could subscribe to apple tv+ and pay an add on fee per sport to watch all the games you wanted, that would be a game changer.

It took five posts for someone to turn the business discussion into a woke war.

These people if they are Gen X or younger find their non-sports content through streaming services like Netflix, Apple TV, Max, Hulu, Paramount, etc.

I think the thread title is a bit misleading as this is simply a prediction and speculative at best, but thanks for sharing it nonetheless.

Disney not selling ESPN.. why would they???… even with everything going on they not losing money which in reality trumps everything else…plus I’m sure those rights won’t just “transfer” to Apple anyway…

They would gouge us to death. You'd end up paying more than ever for tv.

Number of eyeballs watching CFB goes down dramatically with streaming.

For whatever reason, the media has pushed apple buying Disney for years.
It's kind of like their fantasy fetish at this point.
