Sure, the Air Force wasn't created until just after the Second World War but those members of the Army Air Force who fought in World War II and remained in the service after the war had concluded were to a man folded into the Air Force.

But when those missions were flown, they were flown by the U.S. Army.

About the history of the Doolittle raid.

Really good book and I did not know a lot about it.
